Godaddy gone mad and almost impossible to use!

I was about to register a new domain on my godaddy account however the number of pages I had to get through full of advertising to get to the payment screen even with express checkout was mind boggling.

I guess that's the end of them for me and was just wondering what other thought.

I honestly wouldn't get a domain from GoDaddy even if
they paid me to do it.

    Why?

I detest the GoDaddy checkout process - talk about
    multiple upsell hell.

    It's insulting.

It screams "GoDaddy is a selfish company that wants
to extract the maximum cash from your pocket today
regardless of how you feel about it."

I refuse to deal with companies that choose to treat
    their customers like that.

I'd much prefer to pay more and have an easy checkout
    process.

    Dedicated to your success,

I was thinking of that otherday as well. It took me a round three or four pages of offers just to renew my hosting package.

I strongly dislike Godaddy as well. If you ever misplace your login information GOOD LUCK getting them to email it back to you. I couldn't remember my user number when I tried renew one of my old domains and I struggled for weeks just to get a response from them. Terrible customer service.

Ironic that marketers are criticizing another company for up selling.

I'm sure that a company the size of GoDaddy has tested their checkout process to death and have found this is how they make the most profit.

    Damned capitalist pigs!

The trick with Godaddy is to call them on their 1-800 # .It is very fast and the reps are very good. They will also help you get user number right over the phone no waiting. They will do a great job because they want you to send a good servay back to them.

Good point ptone however I think it has gone past ridiculous.

I have no complaints about their customer service however I think this goes way beyond upselling.

As far as the product and service they provide it is excellent but interesting that people are moving away because of the overdone upsell. I will keep my current domains their but wont register any more till they change. It seems a new upsell page is added every few months.

    Is this a lesson.

This is EXTREME Upselling. It is truely MIND BOGGLING!

GoDAddy offer so many upsell options I lose interest.

One upsell at a time is my philosophy.

However, if it didn't work GoDaddy wouldn't be doing it. Depends how much testing they've done.

I would not recommend Godaddy to anyone. I bought hosting with them about 2 years ago and have been with them ever since. I have many domains hosted with them. Wish I could change hosting but it's a mission to move all my websites to another hosting site.

The upselling is ridiculous. Also, they always have to have a hot girl on their front page to "entice" people to buy. crazy.

Given the price, I'm prepared to go through a few pages. I'm used to it now so I know what I'm doing.

I am used to it too. The price is not that different from other hosting companies at all.

I'm happy with GoDaddy as far as domain buying (and only buying) goes. The upsells take all of 20 seconds to get through and the price is nice. If you want something a little cheaper (with just as many upsells) you can go to NameCheapDomains (they're a Godaddy reseller though, so the ONLY achievement is an extra $0.50 in your pocket per domain name). Ultimately, GoDaddy still makes money from you.

For everyone who's done GoDaddy hosting however... WHYYYYY???? Did you not even bother looking around? No offense, but there are TONS o better hosts to choose from. I'm with Bluehost currently, but the only disadvantage there is 5 add-on domains. So I'll be moving my business to either Host Monster, Lunar Pages or Host Papa. I will also warn against using Host Gator because they're over priced for the crappy plans they offer (not much space or bandwidth), but I've never used them.

Hope this helps... turned out to be a bit longer than planned

I have about 60 websites with them, I have no complaints, other than this one: last night their service was impossibly slow to use for me :-/ Other than that I'm satisfied and don't really care what others think... As soon as you let me know of a better company that is cheaper, easier to use and has faster "economic" servers, I will transfer!

    Hi

I have purchased domain names in the past with Go Daddy and I never had that problem, unless the customer service level has dropped since then

Godaddy will takes ownership of your domain if you got spam complaint and you will be lock from your account. I read it somewhere stating bad experiences from some big dogs or gurus.

I have all my domains switch to namecheap !

LOL... I was thinking the same thing Steve. Here we've got a community filled with people who use these idiotic pop-up one-time-offer ads, personal assistants, etc.... and they're crying about the cheapest domain registrar trying to make a buck by upselling them.

This place is so full of hypocrites it's... well... it's amusing to say the least.

I get a lot of enjoyment from irony.

There's another reason for not liking GoDaddy....Mike Filsaime is also one of those who has said openly that he strongly dislikes GoDaddy because they keep too much control over your domain name even if you have pointed the nameservers towards some other Registrar/hosting company.

On a personal note.....I dislike Godaddy because of their customer service. Once they billed my former paypal even though I have updated the Billing details with my new paypal address and yes, I did that before 15th of that month.

Try going through the GoDaddy pages with a dial-up system--it takes forever. But I've always had good customer service with them.
I did have a problem, though they denied it, with a parked domain that suddenly was being re-directed (forwarded) to another site. Everytime I went into my account (again, not an easy task on dial-up) and changed it to a blank forward, it would change right back to the bogus one. No help from GoDaddy. So I finally forwarded it back to my dormant domain. Problem solved. But I still think someone got into the goDaddy system. How else could this have happened.

Everyone who gets so damn upset whenever someone else makes any kind of complaint about marketing methods they dislike need to chill a bit.
Damn...this stupid 'marketers who don't like being marketed to' argument is getting SOO old.

What if your local news channel went from 10 mins of commercials per half hour to 20-25 mins? Would it not be ok to consider finding an alternative source for your news? Or are you just 'bitching' about being marketed to?

For anyone else who does find GoDaddy's practices a bit overboard might like this video...
