Hey there everyone. Sal Here. I've been meaning to change my domain name, but I have no idea how to go about it. What are the necessary steps to replace my current domain name (puapro.com) with a new one??

Move all the files from that domain to the new one...

Purchase your new domain and point the nameservers to your host. Back up your old site and upload to your new site.

If it's a static html site, just ftp the files to your new domain. If it's wordpress, warrior cbucciaral (suzanne) has a guide on transferring a wordpress site.

Or you could do what I do, which is install wordpress, install the theme and then export the database from the old site and import it to the new site.

Then go back to your domain registrar and redirect the old site to the new site. That way you won;t lose visitors who click on a link to your old site.

Depending on who your host is you might be able to get support to actually transfer the files for you.
I use Host Gator in the p.ast before I knew how to transfer things myself done it for me.

    Good luck.

Pretty easy, but it depends upon your current setup.

Asking how to change domains is like asking how to improve your golf swing; it depends what you're doing now.

If you're using "addon domains" it's really easy, just redirect to where your pointing it to.

Remember a domain is just a pointer anyway; also, I would email your host / domain provider. 9/10 they will offer assistance for free.

Buy a new domain name (the one that you really want), backup the files on your current site to your desktop, and FTP your files over to the new domain. You can do this with Filezilla.
