Look for good Youtube videos that you can "copy". I don't mean steal, I mean on which to base your own videos.

Check list:
Is the video easy to make?
Is the video cheap/free to make?
Can I make the video quickly?
Is the video popular/gets views and likes?

No sense in reinventing the wheel. Just because someone else has put up a recipe for apple pie doesn't mean you can't.

Always add an article with targetted keywords in your video description (500 words or more)

Make lots of videos
Make videos frequently
Make videos about current fads, events, news, topics.
Interact with your viewers respond to comments
Call to action whether asking them to subscribe, leave a comment and give their opinion, etc.

You need traffic.. for getting more views on a Youtube video.

Do SEO on Google and social media optimization on both Facebook & Twitter for generating the traffic.

Whenever I post a video, I always submit it to reddit. It can be any sort of video, and you can get a landslide of traffic.

I released a video 2 months back which reviewed 4,000 views in its first week, all because of reddit! It's a great site for viral marketing.

Try to make the videos that you would watch, some people just throw videos up thinking sod it its up so people will view it, I always think about what would I do If I came across this video, would I watch it or just move on..

You need a good engaging video to begin with. One that offers actual value and isn't just a blatant self promotion. Something the person watching it wants to know / see.

Be sure to include your keyword in title, description, tags, channel name and as the video file name it's self. Make your description around 500 words and contain related keywords. Add related keywords to the title too (only if it makes sense) and the tags.

If you're in a competitive niche and your keyword has a lot of competition then you need to either expose it to a lot of people quickly via your websites, lists, social media etc or if you you want to go blackhat about it then point as many links as you can find at it (blog comments, wikis, edus, web 2.0, social bookmarks - all can be bought on Fiverr), you need to get as many views as you can. Vagex is good for this as it's real views and you can ask for likes, subscribers and comments too plus make sure you set the views for the whole length of the video, YT considers how engaging the video is and takes into considering interactions.

Do all of this and you'll rank highly in the results and start to receive natural views, comments, likes, subscribers. Alternatively it can take a long time for your videos to attract natural views etc.

Otherwise, create engaging videos and have multiple call to actions to subscribe. With a "Subscribe" annotation too.

How do you create an engaging video?

Good question... Here's a killer "template" I picked up from Perry Belcher and Ryan Deiss...

1. Introduce yourself or your brand. Immediately suggest they subscribe for more.
2. Tell them what's in it for them. Do this quickly because you only have a few seconds to hook the viewer's attention.
3. Give solid value. Fully deliver on the promise you made earlier.
4. Recap with a conclusion of what you told them.
5. Advise them on what to do next.
6. Issue a call to action (HUGE)
7. Show a call-to-action image for 15-30 seconds.

Promote your Youtube channel/videos/details every where. On your blog, site, on forums... and make your content outstanding. Results will vary depending on niche. Typically videos with someone talking in front of a camcorder is the best. But article videos do well too.
