I have 2 PCs on a home network (connected via a router).
How can I access (not just file share) one from the other ? Thanks Harvey |

VNC works pretty tight as well ...
Depending your versions of OS ... windows RDP / Remote Desktop works nifty. |

Harvey, use VNC or Remote Desktop.
Remote Desktop This is a thin client session. If you're in the living room and connecting to the PC in the bedroom, nobody can see what you're doing. It's a bit like logging into a virtual host. Turn on Remote desktop on the bedroom PC. In XP, you right click "My Computer" and its buried in properties. From the living room, go to accessories/communications and you'll find the Remote Desktop connection program. Or just go start, run, mstsc.exe VNC This is not a client session. This is direct control of the PC. Anyone looking at it in the bedroom will see your mouse moving around. When you log in you'll get immediate control of the PC. You need to install VNC software on both PCs (actually, it can be more complex than that but its just easiest to install the software on both). Probably RDP is the best for you. It's very good technology. Citrix make an entire business out of it. |

If you want to access the files on the other computer (rather than remote control it) you can access the contents of the C: drive as follows:
Start -> Run \\OTHERCOMPUTERNAME\C$ For Drive D: replace C$ in the above command with D$ You will be prompted for the other computer's login password info. Sean |

Really sounds like you want VNC - easier to setup and free - than Windows remote desktop [ im ho ] VNC - just straight up works.
The machines ARE actually seeing eachother on the network right? Good luck. Quote:

On the "Remote" tab there should be two options. One called "Remote Assistance", the one you speak of, and one called "Remote Desktop". It's the latter that you want to switch on.

Are you running XP Home or XP Pro? XP Home does not have this facility in which case I suggest using VNC: Ultra VNC : Remote Support Software, Remote Support tool, Remote Desktop Control, Remote Access Software, PC Remote Control

It is slightly easy to do. First thing you must do is to share both networks. And it will be completely connected as a netwrok sharing in a few months or less.
