WSO or Warrior for Hire?

Hi everyone. I do seasonal work (teaching at university) on a sessional basis - so when the holidays kick in, I have no salary to rely on. Im looking toward offering my premium design services via Warrior Forum - but am unsure whether to advertise in WSO section or Warrior for Hire.

The rates offered would be exclusive to Warriors, so in effect it would be a special offer - I have no qualms about paying the additional $20 for WSO. Would this service be eligible to be posted in that section or would the 'For Hire' board be better suited?

Ive been fortunate to win a number of design awards and have been profiled in all the major Photoshop magazines and design manuals. I have recent covers in Amazon bestsellers (horror), and covers in the Goodreads Choice Awards 2012. These badboys sell!

Sincerely hope there's a market for premium covers. I look forward to any comments on this question.

Just starting out I would go with Warrior for Hire. I would imagine your offer could easily "drown" in the WSO section among all the "make money online" offers. WSOs also tend to be more competitive and require good sales copy etc. That, or sending good traffic to it yourself, or with affiliates.

You could always put it up in both, or go with a Warrior for Hire offer and put it in your signature while being active on the forums.

In short: I have no "right answer" for you, but I would guess Warrior for Hire is the best place to begin with.

Awesome advice Robert, puts things in a different perspective. I initially thought that the extra traffic would be beneficial, however there's the additional 'noise' to compete with in the WSO section. Much appreciated.

What services will you be offering and price? (ecovers, headers for example)

I specialise in high-end & concept art - primarily aimed at Fiction authors, however I can recreate anything you have seen, or any idea you conceive. Pricing for WF is flat rate $254USD, additionally your cover can be formatted for print layout at no extra cost (including spine design, back cover etc. - another WF exclusive)

This ones targeted at the pros who are looking to dominate the big leagues, however the price is still very competitive for what your getting. Competing service providers (with no credentials) are charging $395+ and that excludes specialised character design.

      Appreciate the enquiry

One thing for sure, your work is superb ! I have no idea about art but the images on your website are powerful.

I can see why top authors would use your services.

I just read a thread about using fiverr for a fictional cover, which is no good since they will get what they pay for, and will get copyrighted images. Your services would be perfect to advertise to Amazon authors for paper back and kindle covers. Maybe you should look into it, it could be very lucrative for you

Warriors for Hire over WSO for services. That's where people look for services here, at least for writing and design, etc.

You can try oDesk as well to advertise your service.

You are targeting a certain type of person. Not likely the person who is looking for cheap ways to make money in the WSO forum. For that reason I would probably advertise in the Warrior for Hire section but you need to have something that sets you apart and above all the other designers there. Why will people pay you $254 when they can pay someone $80 for a top grade cover?

I would come up with some USP if I were you. Another thing you could do is offer a WSO design service. You design the graphics for people's WSO sales pages. That way you can command good money and there's definitely a market for those types of graphics. Offer people a small discount if you can include a logo or designed by link at the bottom of their WSO sales page so your name spreads that way when people see a WSO design they really like.

Kool tip, but the freelancer sites never appealed to me - it's competition within a 'too-tight' arena, I like carving out my own path

Appreciate the comment. That was my thread, I was learning about the price points of authors in different niches. Did pick up a few good pointers! The majority of the books Ive already designed are in print

Pure gold. Based on your comment and the feedback from the board, I will definitely take the For Hire route as opposed to Special Offer. WSO design is a good idea, but I love illustration too much to take my attention away from it (probably why Im not rich lol :rolleyes

I have my USP completely locked up and ready to go!

Most cover designers are good at arranging stock elements with type in the creation of clean design. I can create the concepts the majority of cover artists are unable to do and handle the typography as well. Im usually commissioned by Kindle cover designers to handle character art - which the customer is billed in addition to the layout. My offer is to handle everything, and for less $$!
