Product Name domain v. Key Word domain

Say you want to sell an Infoproduct, let's call it Craig's List Pro.

Doing the Key Word Research, you find that
- Craig's List Pro - is practically never searched for
but per G's Key Word Tool

- Garage Sales - has about 7,000 local monthly searches

You can get either domain name
www dot craigslistpro.com or www dot garagesales dot com for 9 bucks

Do you go with the info-product name, assuming that anyone looking for such an odd term is more likely to buy if they come to your site....(a more targeted but possibly lower traffic)

or go with the term that is searched for, and assume you can pre-sell them before you send them to the hoplink (or get them to opt-in for your Garage Sales Empire Newsletter)

And let's also assume that you aren't going to buy both terms and build both sites and rank both sites, you only want to build 1 site.

Thanks,
Stras

If you have one or more product that is related to the niche then you would be best building your list with the broader keyword domain. If you have only one product and no potential of repeat sale to that target market- then the smaller and more targeted way to go would be the best. That has always been my rule of thumb. Hope this helps.

I've heard a lot of people say that EMD's still work for them.

But being this is WF, no one is willing to give an example of a EMD with little to no content that is still on the 1st page post EMD update.

I find a lot of the secrecy in the IM game to be very maddening (so few people can give a straight answer), but I understand its necessity.

They do still "work" if what you mean by "work" is "give added SEO".

If they have little or no content or other methods to support the site in addition to the EMD, then the niche/keyword needs to be very non-competetive.

Search for Wine Wicket. You see my dad's site or facebook page at #1. He is too busy to work on it so the site only has a few articles.

Now, Wine Wicket, as a keyword, has nobody searching for it.

But "Wine" is a very competitive niche- Google could put any authority wine sites at the top for low volume wine terms to ensure "quality" in the SERPs but my dad is ranked #1 because he has the EMD.

The problem with keywords that actually have search volume is that many marketers have seen them using modern advanced and 'push-button' keyword research tools. So the EMDs are taken and the top sites have other SEO power behind them.

But if you can find a "golden nugget" or are looking to use a less popular term for "branding", an EMD can still help immensely.

The secret is there is no secret.

There are also few straight answers.

I will choose the given name that average competitive and high conversion rate.
No matter product name or keywords name you choose as long it related to your content and easy to remember. EDM no longer useful cause Google start punish those site with exact match keyword domain with no quality content or old content which no updated.

if you choose keywords domain name then make sure your site going to have quality and unique content then you can take benefit on it .

Exact Match Domain are in risk after the recent google update. It will become tough for you to rank if you take a EMD. Though it is not impossible. The other one should be good for you to rank. Google will rank your site within your contents. No tension of EMD or keyword spamming.

EMD's will still work if you have a quality website that is not just MFA. If it's just a single product, use the product name in the domain -- if you have a variety of products in the same niche, use the broader term in your domain.
