Help with Wordpress for newbie

Hi there,
Hopefully someone out there can answer what I am sure is a simple question. I am setting up my very first website. I have done everything that I know how to do to correctly do this but I am running into a problem. I have registered my domain with Godaddy. I have hosting with Hostgator. I have set my domain to point to Hostgator for DNS settings (Ithink thats what its called..lol) In hostgator I have just installed fantastico deluxe. I read that in order to work within the wordpress admin area I have to type www.mydomain.com/wp-admin When I do this it brings me to a page that is not that of wp admin area. instead it has a black background and icon to work on instantpage by godaddy. I am really confused. Do I have to install wordpress again somewhere? Please help me......I would be very greatful

    Hi

It can take some time for the DNS to propagate. You should be able to access your website after 24 hours (sometimes up to 48 hours!)

EDIT: I think that HostGator gives you a temporary URL (IP-based) so that you can access your website even before the DNS has propagated. Try to check in your "Welcome Email"?

Thanks for the reply. However, I have checked with Godaddy and it says that it is active and it has been launched. I am enclosing an attachment so you can see what it looks like. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again

Krystal you need to make sure your Domain Name is pointing to the correct folder for wordpress. You have to goto to the dns section in your hostgator admin console and then click addon domain put the domain name in the box and then find the directory where your wordpress website is and point that domain name to it.

HostGator have an excellent 24x7 support chat, they will help you with any issue within minutes. As you are already a paying customer, why don't you use their help? Trust me, they're fast and effective and will solve your issue quicker than any reply here.

Great to hear you got it working. Wordpress is a really nice blogging script.

For those who's domains haven't propagated and you need to access your site to work on it.

You should be able to access your site by going to the ip of the server your on.

Here's an example 123.345.65.213/~yourusernamehere that will allow you to access your site until the domain propagates.

These details should be in your welcome email.
