Worried that I might fail

I'm kind of worried that I might fail, given that it's my first time doing an affiliate site.

I did keyword research ensuring low supply and high demand, followed by outsourcing the all the content.

I'm currently putting up all the content that I have outsourced (110 pages of content for a site about investing). I'm worried that this project might fail to see any profit given that it's all outsourced. I'm planning to outsource seo as well, followed by building a list and outsourcing the list of emails, but I'm again unsure if I'll be able to gather much subscribers or sales.

Many uncertainities, many things to do. I have fear as this is really the first time I'm putting up a decent site. Am I on the right track? Is there any way to know for sure if a site will make money?

You have done everything. Now you cannot go back to the past and change it. Replace your fear with desire. Everything will workout great. Try it.

Put it this way, even if you make no money as long as you learn from it you still win.

One way to get out of worry and into productive emotions is to get on with it... Fail already!

Your looking at failure as if it is the enemy or the problem, but that's not true...

Indeed, failure is your friend. You can learn about what doesn't work when you fail. If you learn enough things that don't work... And keep with it... You'll eventually stumble across a few things that work.

Gonna try to give you a visual representation of this.

Most people think the diagram of success looks like this:
      Code:
      Success<----YOU---->Failure
We are taught that failures are losers and that we aren't supposed to fail. 'Just keep doing successful things and don't fail, and someday you'll make it' -type thinking will leave you standing at the starting gates wondering how to get started.

Here's the actual diagram of success:
      Code:
      YOU---->Failure---->Success!
Success is actually on the other side of failure from where you are right now. With this understanding, you are empowered to fail faster while knowing that your getting that much closer to success.

Remember, it took 10,000 failed prototypes for a light bulb before they cracked the code... The trick is not to avoid failing, but to jump in and get going!

One absolute, surefire way to fail is to not ever try something new or get started because of fear.

No matter the outcome, at least you have a CHANCE to succeed because you took those first steps. Without those first few steps you had no chance at all.

    Good luck.

No matter how fearful you may feel... FINISH THE PROJECT.

Don't focus on what might happen. Focus on what needs to be done and what you can do today to accomplish it. Even if its something small.

You started this project with an idea. You outlined the steps needed to accomplish it. You enlisted assistance to help you along the way. You are almost to the finish line. Keep going. Take a deep breath and cross the thresh hold. You CAN do this!

      Just do it.

All people when they first learn to walk, fall. Because basically all walking is actually falling one foot at a time, BUT after a few falls you learn catch yourself with your other foot, and soon your just walking and no more falling.

I used to be a great fastball hitter. One day this dude threw me my first slider. I struck out. Word got around I was not a junk hitter. I was fed a constant supply of junk for 3 weeks or so. I got o the point of just not swinging.

The first few times my coach didn't say much for me watching balls go by for the fact I was a good shortstop. It didn't take too long before I heard "swing the damn bat."

Next practice we worked on identifying sliders as well as other junk pitches. I still struck out more than I hit but that is baseball. The deal is ... if I had just quit swinging and stayed there I would have never been able to hit the several home runs I did before i got too fat and old to play anymore.

Don't let fear rule you .. swing the damn bat.

Everyone is right. You cannot fail on something you don't give up on. This is not some ridiculous "I'm going to Mars" kind of goal. This is something others have done and with hard work, and a lot of fine tuning, you have the power.

No way to know other than test. That is why it is best to do it all yourself before you spend all kinds of money and have no clue if it is going to work. You pay people when you have a system that you know works and generates an income. then you outsource, and get your ass to work on the next money maker ; ) If you fail it just means that you are on the right track. At least you took a chance. Track everything and that way you will know what did work and what didn't. Simple as that.

Dammit Troy, you got in the "just swing the bat" analogy before I could.

It's true though, the only way to hit it out of the park is to take a big swing.

Thats good that you're taking action. One factor that prevents many from taking action is the fear associated with failing. However failing whether its big or small is a way of progressing and building a business. Don't let the fear of failing stop you.

There is a way to know if a site will work or not. You have to become an expert on internet marketing and learn many things you ignore, so that you may create a perfect business plan instead of acting blindly, without knowing what you are doing.

However, until you’ll become an expert, you’ll have to face failure many times. Nobody begins from the top.

In the beginning everyone will unavoidably make mistakes even after studying because when you put a theory into practice you see that it is totally different from what it theoretically seemed to be.

Without traffic nothing can be done and this is the biggest problem everyone online is facing. Everyone has to do many things to get traffic. You have to beat your competitors and sent people to your pages.

Besides getting traffic, you must convert your visitors into buyers, and this is another complication. Many people may arrive to your pages, but if these pages are not well-organized, or if these people are not the right people because they are merely curious and have no buying intention, nothing will happen with these visitors.

Everything is quite complicated. You must learn how this system works.

Don’t forget to collect email addresses and build your email list. You must offer something for free to all visitors when they get to your site so that they may become your subscribers and you may have the chance to promote your products to these visitors again.

They won't buy anything with their first visit, but perhaps if you’ll send them a few messages you may convince them to do so. Don’t lose the chance to get subscribers because selling directly is rare and you are a beginner.

Give away a free ebook about your topic and build your email list without letting your visitors arrive just once at your site and never again, and completely forget your existence. Make them learn more about you and your products through email messages.

I have to agree - make mistakes - you will learn from it.

More mistakes you make the better, you will learn very quickly

Are you spending any time working on your mindset? May I suggest you put some time into personal development each day. Now, I'm not talking about the airy fairy - feel good - happy go lucky - lollypop sucking - kitten stroking - bunny rabbit cuddling kind of stuff. You may well fail. Nothing is certain especially in internet marketing and being your first time you're just learning and getting to grips with things. It's unlikely your first ever project would be a roaring success (though it happens) but even if it's not as successful as you hoped you'll learn a lot from it and can use your new found skills to have another attempt.

I'm kind of worried that I might fail,
Ok - and if you fail... what is the worst that can happen to you?

You may waste a bit of time (but you'd learn more by doing)
You may not be able to brag - but is that important?
You might have to start over or make a new plan (oh well)

      You won't be hospitalized
      You won't die
      You won't starve
      No animals will be harmed

The biggest risk you are taking is outsourcing everything because you won't learn much by doing that. Better to do the first few online projects by yourself - getting technical help if needed - and then begin to outsource.

Unless you learn how to do what needs done - you won't have the ability to define what is good/bad from an outsourcer or understand limitations/potential.

I'm not going to say you are going to have a successful website or not. Do everything in your power for it to succeed.

The fortunate part about you outsourcing the content and seo is, IF it fails you won't have spent 100's of hours finding out it's failed. Conversely, you won't have spent hundreds of hours to figure out its working before you start to scale up further.

You have the drudge work done so you can direct where the business is going to go, not bogged down by the minutiae and tedium of creating content or doing seo.

And that's a good thing. You don't stop a good thing.

I think you've been given lots of good advice, in this thread.

And still, there'd probably be something wrong with you if weren't, on some level, "kind of worried" that your site might fail.

I am, every time I do a new site/niche/set-up, though the extent to which I'm nervous about it has been gradually diminishing, time after time, with each one I do. The downside's fairly low, after all.

I do agree with Kay, though, that outsourcing a 110-page site (I start mine off with 3 or 4 pages) is a little riskier in that you learn a lot less, to carry forward with you to future developments, by outsourcing than you do by doing it yourself.

Not "for sure", no. It's kind of a probability function. The odds improve, each time, as you learn, and refine your techniques and presentation. But that requires judgment and experience, which you don't have, more or less by definition, with your first one.

    Good luck!

Actually, put your mind at ease. There is no "failure" really in this kind of business.

Think about the traditional "brick and mortar" business: Investing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to get started: Lease property, buy equipment, secure distribution channels, expensive advertising, employees and benefits, insurance etc etc...There you have a real fear of failing.

What fear do you really have? What is the most you will lose on this? That's your worst case downside and even then, you'll have learned what doesn't work.

And then, never give up because you don't know when "you are one inch away

If you're in a decent space, it may take months of tweaking and testing before you
"see" the path to the desired success. Also, I'd want to make sure the content quality is as good or better than the market standards.

You might want to provide the link to the website - or at least the market - for more input. (Sorry, if you already did. I have a short attention span and have not read every post.)

Hope this helps and you keep happily failing and learning.

I've had to reinvent myself after losing my job and also just started to build an Internet business.

I hope we both succeed right out of the box, but my experience tells me that you will need to work your business and fine tune it.

I also know that a failure can often be the catalyst to future success as my initial online business didn't generate income. But it provided the experience to understand what I did wrong. Give it the time and effort.

As long as you provide a valuable product or service, target a market that is interested and treat your customers and email subscribers like gold, you will be rewarded.

Failure gives you experience on what not to do and what to do next time around. Sometimes it's not about fearing failure for a lot of people. some people actually fear success. Do the one thing that you know in your mind might put you out of your comfort zone. That's where the success is, so if you fear doing it, most of the time it's worth doing

  • Stop worrying about the potential of failing. Learn to fail fast.. get it out the way; then test, tweak and track until you are able to do it profitably.

Some things to check for that have a greater probability of success:

    - Since you are capturing the traffic that comes to your site by building a list have you developed the rest of your front end sales funnel so that you can offset paid traffic if you decide to go this route?

    - Do you have at least 7 follow up promotions set up for this group loaded into your autoresponder? (I'd prefer a larger number but it takes the average buyer 7 exposures to a product to purchase. So, at the very least, you should be promoting your juiciest offer here.)

***hot tip*** need to know how to promote the same product to your list without it going stale? Make a list of seven benefits that this problem solves. Each email should give them solid information they can use, then point out a common problem that your primary product solves followed by a solid call to action. Do this every 2 to 3 days.

    - Have you established a solid traffic strategy that encompasses more than "hope to rank in the search engines"?

If you can answer yes to these questions, then you are certainly on the path to success.

    Good luck!

What happens if you fail? I think here is what happens:
    • you lose a few $$$
    • you learn a few lessons

Is there any way to know for sure if a site will make money?
Yes. Launch it and see if it makes money.

For whatever reason, we (as adults anyway) seem to fear failure. If you haven't read it, get a book called Lean Startup by Eric Ries. It's purpose is to help you fail faster. (WHAT???)

His story is pretty simple. They built software for 6 months only to find out that no one would click the download button. His argument: They could have made a website in a few hours with a download button, then found out if anyone would have clicked it saving 6 months worth of development $$$.

So, stop over analyzing it. Put the site up, see what happens. Then tweak. Test your assumptions, then tweak some more. If it completely flops, seek some advice, and try that. Then if it still goes nowhere, move on to a new project. Don't get married to it.

Gotta kill ALL doubt in your mind. It is not a good idea to go into any venture with a negative mindset. If think you'll then chances are you will by that limiting factor alone. This is an industry where EVERYONE fails at some point when trying something new but they win with knowledge. As long as you keep pushing at it and making the changes where needed there is no way you can fail. First thing first, start getting a more positive attitude as you approach things. Start saying I can do this and I WILL do this no matter what.

Every failure brings you one step closer to success, ask any successful person and they will tell you they learn more from their failures than their successes

Even if you do fail you will learn exactly why you didn't succeed, and can then try something different. Keep trying until you find what works for you. Just don't give up.

You're on the right track by outsourcing stuff you don't like doing or just don't want to do because it's not fun...if it's not fun, what's it for? Before you can succeed you have to be HAPPY...and that means doing what you love because that's what you're obviously good at.

Do not fear failure, simply learn from it and recognize that it only has to be a bump in the road, not real failure.
