Can You Pause An Aweber Campaign?

Hey Warriors,

I must be going blind because I don't see where we can pause an Aweber campaign that's already rolling. I remember GetResponse had that option.

Do you know if this is possible with Aweber and how "if" it is?

Was going to ask Aweber but know I'd get a way faster response here.

Dean, I have been all through that site and to the best of my knowledge,
there is no way to pause a campaign.

Or do you mean you want to stop people from getting any more follow ups after a certain message number? (i.e. you want people who haven't gotten the first 3 messages yet to get those, but not 4, 5, 6 etc)?

Both are possible by changing the interval for the appropriate message/s (after all, if a follow up has an interval of 500 days... nobody's going to get that follow up unless 500 days have passed since they got the previous one!).

You can pause the campaign. On the main page go to the bottom left were you backup your account. On this screen you can deactivate the list.

Be careful though, if you keep the list deactivated for more than thirty days it will be deleted.

Yes Dean, that's not pausing the campaign. That is deactivating it. It is not
the same thing. The campaign is effectively dead. No emails go out but
nobody can opt into it either. If you're okay with that, fine, but just so you
know, this doesn't JUST prevent emails from going out.

Yes, deactivating a list would prevent new people from signing up.

As others have noted, we delete lists that are deactivated for 30 days. Plus you can't make any changes to a list while it's deactivated.

Rule of thumb: only deactivate a list if you don't intend to use it again - ever.

If you don't want new people to sign up for a while, I recommend commenting out the signup form/s on your site. When you're ready to start building your list again, uncomment the forms so they appear again.

That way you don't have to remove and re-add the signup form HTML to your site, and you don't have to deactivate your list.

In that case, you'd want to change the interval for each of your follow ups to something really high (like 500 or 999).

When you deactivate a list, you're effectively telling us you don't want that list anymore.

We hold on to it for 30 days in case you change your mind, but if I were you, I'd treat it like a Delete function.

To keep people from getting follow ups for a while, change the intervals. To keep people from signing up for a while, comment out your signup forms.

Set the interval to 999 days (that's as high as it'll go, last time I checked).

That's actually a very neat solution with no risk at all to your list.

As soon as you want them back on your sequence you change the interval back.

Of course it means you'd have to change the interval for all your emails if you wanted the follow ups to stop for all your subscribers.
