IM Newbie, best to go for separate blog

Hey, i'm just starting up on IM, and like others on here thought it best to get really clued up and do my research. Though like the others i've been overwhelmed by the aount of info and looking for a few pointers:

1) I've set up a website and wondering, is it best to make one of the pages a blog or go for a separate blog on somewhere like Blogger or Squidoo as well as having the site?

2) If you have a separate one as well as the main website, should the content of it differ from your main site or can it be the same?

Any tips for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend building one authority site. If you have other sites that will help promote your main site then they NEED to be on the same topic.

If you need anymore information I'd be glad to help .

1: Do it on-site, but use the services you mentioned as other places to put different content. More on that in 2, but basically, keep your stuff on your site, and use other services for one-off write ups about the topic of your site, to point to your site. Do it a couple times a week if you can.

2: Do not use duplicate content, ever.

I would incorporate the blog on a separate folder or "directory" on your 1 MAIN site.

    Ex: yoursite.com/blog or blog.yoursite.com

As others have mentioned, use all of your ebst content on your own site. You can use other websites such as squidoo and use those to point back to your own site. Sites such as squidoo work out well because they already have a lot of authority and rank in the search engines much easier.

Focus on your main site. Use sites like Squidoo and other web 2.0 sites to indirectly advertise your site. For instance, set up a Squidoo page about one of the topics you cover on your blog. Somewhere in the Squidoo article, mention your website. Instant traffic.

The main reason for your blog is for your prospects to see what you have to offer (products or services etc).

So the more eyeballs you get to your blog the more money you'll potentially make.

So get a blog on your own domain with unique content and use the other third party services like squidoo etc to drive more eyeballs (traffic) to your main blog.

My recommendation, use a page on the same domain. For example, if your domain is www.mysite.com, your blog would be www.mysite.com/blog. Make sure the blog page can be accessed from your homepage.

The content on the blog should still be within the same subject as your site, but you cover different topics. For example, an SEO company may offer pages on their site explain all of the different services they provide. The blog for this type of site might cover the benefits of these services, how they are changing and any recent news in the industry.

    Hope this helps!
