  Create content and then distribute wherever possible. However, not all content is your standard informational article. I'd consider what I'm doing right now to be content generation, for example. What you need to brainstorm about is all of the different ways people are accessing and communicating about your niche.

Depends on your niche.... Google it. For IM niche, the fastest way is paid traffic. Buy a solo ad from someone with a big list with an opt-in page, and swap too. (But you got to be ready to know what to do with your list once the subs come in, they come in fast.)

Free traffic is cool, but it takes a lot longer. And time costs money...

Doesn't hurt to have a Twitter account and keep posting with links to your page where they can opt-in. Facebook is more social and I never had any luck over there getting any traffic, but that's just me.

Once you have a list and can swap you can also join give-aways to help build your list...

I guess it would depend on what you like doing, if you hate writing articles don't do article marketing to drive traffic. I love shooting videos so getting traffic from youtube is free and fun

The best method to gain free traffic is obviously selecting some good keywords and ranking for them in the search engines.Social media is also a good source for getting free traffic If you can do it right.

I find creating Youtube videos is the best, also try to grab a software which is free called Oneload it will enable you to upload your videos to all the major video sites from 1 simple site and it only requires about 3 clicks to submit to all the video sites.

Plus remember to search for good keywords that pop up in the you tube search box that are related to your niche and use those search terms that are obviously getting a lot of views in your title and description.

Of course don't forget to put a link in the video's description.

I also respond to other video's in my niche by posting one of my videos as well. Go for video's that have been getting a lot of searches and likes.

I've found that traffic exchanges can bring large amounts of traffic, but that traffic is usually people interested in increasing their own traffic, so they don't usually convert due to the small amount of time they spend on your site.

There's a company by the name of SiteBuildIt that has a
long record of helping people build quality SEO-friendly sites.

The main idea is simple...

Create a site around a specific theme with appropriate keywords.
A 20-25 page site to start out with. Then build from there. Drive
"free" traffic with articles, YouTube vids, etc. If the site is truly
a quality site you may have high ranking sites link to you.

It's a long process for the most part.

The faster way is to get JV's and affiliates on board. But you'll
have to spend some money to prove the site converts.

  i agree with post above about youtube videos. It has been working wonders for me lately.
  Especially when building your list people opt-in like crazy if you make a good genuine video sharing something you know how to do such as how to get into cpa networks, how to get leads from facebook, etc...

Search engines have always been a major way to get traffic for free. That is why you need to do your homework and optimize your site so that it ranks well for the keywords you target. SEO is still the most powerful way to get traffic for free and you really need to invest some time and efforts in the optimization of your site

Research free methods like seo, article marketing, video marketing, yahoo answers, Facebook fan pages, twitter marketing, etc - this should help get you started in the right direction
