Aweber automatic signup question, re: segmentation

Hey all,

Trying to get this worked out, but I haven't found a way around it just yet.

I have my aweber set up to auto-add (but still send verification email) to anyone that pays me through a specific funnel, via the "email to add" feature (i.e. anyone who pays me via paypal to X email address is auto added to X list in Aweber, then sent a verification email). This bypasses the email signup form where I would generally be putting in ad tracking information for later segmentation.

Is there any way to have aweber key into a specific identifier in the original email (it's a form email, so all the emails would have the same info) so that I might later segment them?

Does that make sense?

I know you can modify the aweber email and insert ad tracking there by following "aweberemail.adtracking@aweber[dot]com" but I can't alter that email address or my paypal sync goes all bonkers.

My ideal situation would be for aweber to receive a message from my buyer, key into a specific phrase or word, and segment them based on that word. I know that's not going to happen, so I'm trying to find a work-around.

Thanks for any help in the mean time.

I'm quite proficient with Aweber but you have lost me.

    First you say:

"This bypasses the email signup form"

    Then you say:

"it's a form email, so all the emails would have the same info"

    I'm confused!

I'm assuming people are being added to your list via the email method. So Paypal or whatever it is you are using sends an email to youraweberlist@aweber.com and that person is automatically added to your Aweber list? But you are wanting to give each person an identifier based on maybe the product they purchased so you can segment them later?

If that's the case, then you probably need to use an emil parser. This will allow you to put extra information inside those emails that are sent to Aweber.

You're correct, by "form email" I meant that it basically says the same thing in everyone's email, since it's coming from paypal, not them emailing directly. There are a few variables like what they purchased, what category it was in, etc.. but otherwise it's just a standard "You've received a payment" email. I want to take the category of item they purchased, and have aweber use that as a segment identifier.

      Make more sense?

      Thanks for your help.

Also, I am using the email parser tab in aweber, but these buyers are NOT coming from a paypal button, so it doesn't offer me the same options.

Basically I'm keying into the automatically generated email that paypal sends when someone makes a purchase. But instead of using their email parser service, which relies on a paypal button from say, your website, I'm having them "pay" my listname@aweber.com email through my paypal account. That's the only way I've been able to get it to work right so far. But that doesn't offer me the ability to segment the list.

I do know that you can segment by doing a listname.adtrackingID@aweber.com, but I'd have to add each email to my paypal account, and then also change the paypal address for each type of product, and that's a huge PITA.
