Have you ever bought a considerably short eBook for over $20? Did you regret your decision?

Short ebooks can be the best ebooks. No need to fluff your ebook with useless information just to say it's xx pages long.

      TheSalesBooster,

I agree. I've asked mainly for two reasons. Although I'm dabbling in various ventures, I'm also in the process of writing my first eBook and keep wondering about one thing. Most successful and viral eBooks on Clickbank seem to be around the $30-$40 price range. If I wen to Barnes and Noble, I could buy two books for those prices. Now it's been a long time since I've purchased an eBook from Clickbank, and don't really know where the industry stands as far as the ratio of #of pages/$ amount of eBooks goes. I guess I'm just wondering how one prices an eBook by taking into account value provided and the # of pages. For example, how would you price a 40 page eBook with great value vs. a 100 page eBook with okay value but more content?

Well, over $20 is hardly a 'big price'.

The best ebook I ever purchased was four pages in length (five really, the last page was a picture).

I paid just short of $200 for this ebook, so pretty much $50 per page (if your counting the page with a image on it).

    Money well spent.

You see most times the quality of an ebook at times has nothing to do
with the length of the material.

    Quality is the key,you know

I have spent over $20 on ebooks. $20 is a deal. $200 for five pages in not.

All depends on what information is on those 5 pages. In fact, the right information to the right person at the right time could be worth far more than $200 for five pages.

To be subjectively against paying that amount (or more) without knowing what's on those pages is quite limiting, so why limit yourself?

Well it all depends on what you'll learn in those 5 pages and what it will add to your bottom line.

As a matter of fact, most of those ebooks you bought for just over 20 probably could be summarized down to less than 5 pages. So its not the mount of content but rather the quality and what you'll achieve from putting that information to use.

As subjective as writing is... I have never had a preference for long or short ebooks.

I have read short ebooks that have been terrible, as well as long ebooks. I've read short ebooks that were incredible, as well as long ebooks.

To assume that short is always better... could be true... but it could also be an excuse not to read. We need to change the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" to "don't judge a book by its cover OR length".

I always judge them based on social proof. If 9/10 people are drueling over x book, and can't shut up about it, then I'm reading that book regardless of price, length or cover. =]

Page length is not an issue, it's the quality of the content that you should be considering.

A short ebook packed with actionable valuable content will be worth more $$$ than a long ebook full of fluff and dribble...

I definitely agree, but even with the highest quality, doesn't an eBook with very low number of pages affect a person's psychology and consequently play a big role in "return rates?"

e.g. Wow, this eBook revealed a great deal of money making techniques to me, but it's only five pages. I think I'm gonna return it.

        I disagree.

If that ebook contains life changing information then the psychological effect will be "wow I gotta take action on this"

It also boils down to the persons perception of the offer based on the sales letter.

If in the sales letter you claim you ebook is an encyclopaedia of knowledge yet what they get is a 5 page ebook then you are stuffed.

The closer your ebook matches their perception of the product based on the sales process the less refunds you will get.

If the ebook exceeds their expectations then you have a customer for life...

And it is the latter statement that you should be striving for.

I have never paid for any eBook because the best website will be shared on forums and P2P sharing services so it is not a wise investment.

Of course I do understand writers and publishers but the thing is that most of these ebooks actually are promoting some other services or goods so you pay for book that tries to sell some more stuff.

I have paid for some of these services and goods so it is not like I got these books for free but at least I didn't paid twice.

Quality content is hard to find because people rarely drill down to the main ideas and focus on exactly what you need to know.

If you are getting some type of step-by-step action plan then I don't see why you wouldn't pay a lot for an ebook if the value was worth the price.

The value of the book is not predicated on the length but on WHAT the reader can do WITH the content. Will it save my marriage? Will it teach me the exact steps I need to earn a decent income? Will it show me how to cure my dandruff without using chemicals?

The length is not material - the quality, the content and whether the ebook delivers on the promise - those are.

    Hi:
ebooks price should be between $7 to $10 affordable to everyone. In US $7-10 is less amount whereas in India it is 1$= 53 rupees which means 53 times per dollar. We have other countries where the multiples for US is even more. All countries should get equal opportunity.

Secondly ebooks means information. Information can worth $1 or $100 depending of content and quality given by author to reader. If the information is worth more that value then price don't mind having higher price, same case vice versa.
