How to Describe Internet Marketing on My Resume?

Hi there,

I'm a 22 year student that is about to graduate with a degree in microbiology and I am interested in having a full time job in addition to the internet marketing that I do at home. This is so I can have extra capital to pursue more riskier projects.

I've made 6 figures from basically promoting products and creating websites using the Google Sniper method. I did product research, created content, outsourced my work, used SEO to rank my website and did a lot of testing until it clicked. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how I can describe my Internet Marketing experience on a resume?

Thank you so much!

    Hi Darshan,
    You are from UP, India.
In India dont mention IM in resume...

Say it like you know, SEO, social marketing and online marketing....my thinking by the way...

Find a writer online, and pay him/her to write this definition for you.

It depends on the type of job you are going for. A good resume will use your information in a way that targets the job you are applying for. Your experience and skills can all be spun in many different ways depending on what job you are seeking.

      Yeah, the wrong impression...

They will figure he's not serious about working for their company and will probably just end up quitting in the end. They won't be able to match what he's making online and they will wonder why he's even willing to work for their company in the first place.

That will be their line of thinking so DO NOT brag about your business at all. I probably wouldn't even mention it for all of the above reasons. They will come to find out you are skilled around the computer and marketing when you are working for them.

You cannot simply lie about your experiences. The OP didn't mention Mobile Marketing so why would he put that in his resume. If you lie about your resume and the company later finds out even after they hire you, they can fire you for being misleading and dishonest on your resume.

A person needs to be completely honest with what they decide to include on their resume. An employer can easily check up on a persons experience by asking and by conducting an investigation. Companies investigate their potential employees far more than what you'd think.

You can definitely give the wrong impression but that depends on which company is employing him, and how he pitches to the company.

It all depends on how the message is put across, with its nuances and the way the message is conveyed.

In any case, Darshanbir I wish you all the best!

In my opinion, most internet marketers deal with written content in one form or another (articles, tips, etc etc). So in my case, i always steer away from saying im a marketer and instead i say that im "a content writer, providing a wide range of written content and information to blah blah blah.."

  • Information marketer, Serial entrepreneur (if you done more then one Internet Marketing Method), there are a lot of formal ways to describe what we all do.
But putting something like Search Engine Optimization would work to.

  • It must be a position you really want, if you're willing to take it despite having made 100k online already.
What exactly are you looking to apply for?

Yeah i was wondering the same thing? If you're hitting $100K online I'm amazed that you're jumping into a full time gig...

I am curious.. if you don't mind my asking, what job are you applying for?

That said, as a guy that regularly looks at resumes, the fact that you're an internet marketer doesn't mean much, but showing that you ran a business might.

Depending on what you did, and how you set it up, I would describe your internet marketing in terms of business experience, and separate everything that you did into sections and detail them.

And that said, regardless of what you put in your resume i'd know that you were an internet marketer, so I don't know that you'd want to dress it up too much.

As they say, there's only so much lipstick that you can put on a pig.

You only get one shot at life - make it awesome.

Everyone else also gets just one crack at it - help make theirs awesome too... or, politely step out of their way.
