Hosting for local businesses

I just upgraded to a hosting reseller account for my online biz. I've read that it is profitable to offer hosting for local businesses because the competition is virtually non-existent. I'm wondering if you can give me a few tips on doing this. Would I start going door to door w/ the businesses? Or should I target local homes? Advertise in a local newspaper? Just not sure how to get started and would love some advice.

Thanks,
C

I think one way of doing this is to design websites for
local businesses... they will typically depend on you
to set them up for hosting.

You can also get some other ideas at this forum...

Before going door-to-door, check your local community regulations. In some places, you'll need a license for soliciting.

Is there a local chamber of commerce newsletter you could advertise in? You might want to look for regional business publications, as those are probably more likely to be read by local business owners than the local paper. Of course, that depends on how good your local paper is. If it's one of those where they toss a copy in everyone's driveway for free each week, it's probably likely that not as many people are reading it as their ad sales people would like you to believe.

Just be aware that the competition may not be as "virtually non-existent" as you might think.

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.
