Future of email marketing/how long will email last or be used

How long does everyone here think email marketing will survive?
I see email being replaced by sms at some places where they collect customers number ,will sms or something similar continue to grow or will email marketing still exist?
With the fast pace of technology we see today,I am a bit afraid about the future and very disappointingly so.

What does everyone here think? how long will email marketing last?
Again, the technology is progressing at a rate faster than ever before, very very fast due to the competition.

I can't see email marketing going redundant certainly not anytime soon,
Most people would prefer to add there email rarther than mobile number, unless its a big brand name company site, I personally avoid giving my number,
Email you can ignore or whatever I don't want to be answering my phone all day, if everyone starts handing out mobile numbers willy billy how long before the spammer SMS raid your inbox with no way to cancel and remove your number

    That's just my personal opinion

I believe sms wont go far but I'm wondering if something else similar and better than email comes out in the near future, just like many prefer tablets over pc/laptops today and I can almost bet a very large part of today's laptop/pc users will be shifting to tablets pretty soon, maybe a couple of years before the change takes place.
And no one would have thought of this before the first tablet came out, except maybe a few.
So yeah,I still feel it'll be replaced by something better within a few years.

The way people communicate changes constantly. Evolutions in social networking, mobile devices, new applications introduced gaming, and generational shifts, among other factors, are driving how we connect with each other.

Today's new innovations may be changing emails but there is no threat to email marketing in the near future. Most people will still like to have their Inbox.

Hi Joshua P! How are you? In my honest opinion unless some sort of direct video

marketing replaces it where you can send personal videos to your list then I don't think

text messaging marketing will become more popular than email marketing simply because

there's more security in people having your email address than your mobile number.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Kind Regards

I think the answer lies in how the young people in the ages of 10-15 are communicating today. Are they using email? If not, when will they start using email and why? Most people in that age group are communicating on MSN, Skype and FB, are they not?

yes email marketing will be die soon if people keep implementing the model. Try not sending out so many emails. People already get enough and will definitely not open them unless it is something relevant to their daily lives and you exert a higher degree of authority over others. Don't overlook the fundamentals. Reestablish your models and clearly strategize yoru approach and execution. OFFER A SERVICE!

everyone connecting online will have an email (or any sort of online inbox in the future).
email is something that is so near to the user yet not intrusive even if you market your product in their face. (and relatively cheap marketing cost)

however, sms marketing is relatively more expensive and more intrusive, making user angry if receiving sms at wrong timing.

social media method is good but still do not have as wide reach as email.
you can see rich people, businessman reading email every minute, but they will not be playing facebook every day.

Hmmm - interesting question. I remember when someone put a computer in the corner of our office, back in the late 1970s, showed us email for the first time and told us we all had an account setup.

It was all green-screen, character-based interface stuff. I remember thinking to myself, "I wonder who will use that?" It may seem like a daft thought, but nobody else that I knew actually had email at the time.

Today, we all have email. But, as you say, that does not mean that it won't go the way of snail mail in the future. Things can change pretty quickly on the web too.

Email marketing will always work as long as people have emails of their own.

I believe email marketing will last for a very very long time. Everyone has an email address and they will always check their emails. It is the best way of communicating these days.

Email marketing is different from sms marketing in that the latter is for notifying the customer of an event, action or order. Meanwhile, email marketing is used for promoting in general. Of course you can add much more content to an email than an sms...

Also, sending pure-advertising through SMS could have a negative impact on your company's image. Just think about how mad customers can get when they get an annoying notice in the morning about something that may not be so significant to them.

Well email marketing is about building a community AFAIK, it doesn't matter if it dies or not, since you can always get people to follow you via different media if you're influential enough.

Email is often the preferred method of communication for most businesses, online and offline, so I don't really see that changing in the near future.

People will always love the convenience of shooting someone an email for any purpose.

I don't think email marketing is going to die soon or be replaced by some advanced method. The security it offers to the receiver is the winning cause here!
