Do text urls count as backlinks?

Let's say theres a site that shows an unclickable url. So:

Code:
<p>http://www.somesite.com or www.somesite.com </p>
Does that still count as a back link to crawlers/google or must the url be inside an anchor tag?

And if it doesn't count for a back link does it help at all?

Exactly, since the latest google update these raw links are recommended as part of your overall linkbuilding strategy. It helps your site look more natural than it would if your were simply using one keyword as anchor text.

It depends on the format. A plain text http://mysite.com will not be counted as a backlink, it must be in an anchor tag like < a href="http://mysite.com ">and the link must be followed, and should not include 'rel="nofollow"' tag.

if it still hyperlink then it calculate as backlink with anchor text of the whole URL, if totally unclickable then it just a text not a backlink.
Google webmaster tools just cant track the link back from that .
