3 years of pedalling to go...

You've gotta set GOALS... I went the longest without setting goals and it's basically like playing the lottery with your business...

After you set those goals, you have to complete them. Figure out steps you need to take to complete each goal....

    ALSO....

We all get 24 hours in a day.. Even the super successful have 24 hours.. only difference between the successful and the non-successful is what is being done with those 24 hours...

That one statement has changed the way I look at life...

Agreed! When you're good at something it's because you enjoy doing it. When you're on the right track, you just know it. It won't seem as work, because it comes naturally.
Everything else (such as setting goals and focus on the journey, focus, don't quit, getting attention) though important, will come.

There were two pieces of advice I'd say was the best for me.

    - Be willing to start small because nickles and dimes soon add up to dollars.

    - Reading books, studying, preparing for a particular business is all fine, but you must DO SOMETHING, even if its the wrong thing because no amount of studying is going to save you from making mistakes.

Since this thread is kind of taking on the theme of favorite business quotes, I wanted to share one that I received from Brian Tracy's newsletter just yesterday.

"Every successful man I have heard of has done the best he could with conditions as he found them, and not waited until the next year for better." - Edgar Howe.

I really like this quote because so many people wait for the perfect time to take action, but the truly successful business men/women took action no matter what the conditions or circumstances they have in front of them.

I enjoyed this quote because I can really relate to it at this point in my life and it really inspired me to stay motivated and keep moving forward.

Tough to say, I've heard too many that have motivated me. I guess I remember (almost) all in principle but none literally. I can list a few, in no particular order...

        1. Give all that you can with open hands, and the universe will give you back with open hands.

        2. The earlier you do it, the more your numbers move geometrically.

        3. Don't work just hard. Work smart also.

        4. Treat your customers/list-members like human beings rather than money-printing machines.

        5. Solve a problem rather than just reviewing things around.

Well there are more, and I have loved them. One parting shot: the most gold is always in the least-treaded roads, and often enough in the most-treaded roads, rarely in the middle.

From my #1 item on my copywriting website:

    1. The most important factor. I have learned the effect of advertising on your sales depends on this factor more than any other:

Do you have a market with a problem to solve and cash in hand, for your product you can reach?

If you do not have this, forget it. No sales copy in the world can sell without a hungry market.

Do NOT make the mistake of thinking you will create a market.
    You will not.

Are there similar products on the market? Are there websites, message boards, and blogs about your market? Does your market have money to spend on your product? Are you able to effectively place your advertising in front of this market?

If you answered yes to each one of those questions, your product has a decent chance of selling successfully. If you answered no, go back to the drawing board.

    Find a hungry market.

Told to spend the first month reading about the different methods for making money. Learn the basic of on & off page SEO. Stick with one method. Do not veer. Do not get frustrated. Make one sale as initial goal. Scale up. Keep a business journal of all actions. Nothing to detailed, broad strokes. Set hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, etc goals. Remove all interference from the work space. Finally..... TAKE MASSIVE ACTION.

The best business advice I had was that I should find buyers first of all, and then find the products that they are already buying to promote to these people who are already buying the same things from somebody else, or create these products for them.

Treat internet marketing for what it is, a business. Sounds simple, but it really did take a while for it to click.

Also, go the extra mile when it comes to giving the reader what they're in search of. Do the research, let readers know about little known facts, and set them up with the best solutions.

    2. Provide value. If you would provide people value for 100000 they would be glad to pay you 50000.

    3. If you afraid to do something - Find something you are more scared than fear of failure. Take Massive actions.

    4. Sell how you want to be sold to. Offer something you would be comfortable buying.

There is nothing new on the internet. Design a better mousetrap.

Speed of implementation, from idea to a product up online with a " Buy now" button on it.

Test test test. Test everything. Improve your results.

One problem - One product = One solution. Next ->

When you are creating products, shut off all distractions. Skype,fb, twtr, phone.
Start a product and don't stop until you have completed that task.
( Otherwise you will have a hard drive full of unfinished bits of nothing. )

"Work your plan, and plan your work."

Spoken by my uncle. Nothing is going to happen if you don't work, but if you go to work without a plan, all that work will be in all the wrong places. So plan what you are going to do, and then do it without reservations.

Simple, but it works for just about everything I've set my mind on doing so far. School, sports, and business.

I think that the best advice that I can give you is to stay laser targeted in what you do. Turn off your phone, facebook, twitter, anything that can interrupt you and start working on your idea. Keep it simple and straight to the point. I wish you all the best. Thanks.

When I was 20 or 21 I opened up my first business and it was a real struggle, in a small town with 24K population but I was under-capitalised young and naive, as it happens I worked at it, luckily I had no dependants and with some luck and perseverance after 3 hard years managed to get established. To answer the question, in desperation I travelled to a government initiative meeting which was set up to help small businesses, after 2 hours travelling and a 2 hour wait I got to the "one on one" meeting with the expert. The advice was (wait for it) "what you need to do Mr Mark is reduce your overheads or increase your turnover" that was it, no methods, ideas, suggestions, lol
however it was a true statement and must have work as i'm still trading 25 years later. At the time I wasn't particularly impressed on the journey back home

I am not sure if this has been said already in this two-page thread. I won't read every single post in this two-page thread but here's my share.

"Love your customers so much that they will love you back."

For me, this is the best principle in business and in life, in general. Everything revolves on relationships.

I know I posted earlier, that was a true situation, the best advice I ever read once upon a time, just wish I could remember who wrote it to give credit to the author - "remember the 2 biggest assets in your business are your staff and your customers - AND they don't even appear on your balance sheet" for me it's the truest thing I ever heard, usual balance sheet items, equipment, F & F, cars, etc, etc .. are all depreciating assets anyhow

Do it now. Don't wait until you have experiences. Go get or buy experiences from someone else (buy franchise, hire consultant, seek for experienced partners etc).

If you want to get your prayers answered, get off your knees and start to hustle.

Do what you do best & hire others to do the rest.

Always give the customer more than what he expects.

    Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

    Have Fun

That's it, that's the ones that stuck with me and that I follow only being topped by what Zig said....if you give enough people what they want, you'll get what you want.

    Cheers,

    Hello,

that is really a good question! Recently I got what I believe is the best advice ever related to online marketing. It came from one of my mentors and he told me, "You should always over deliver to you customers"! I was told, first think how your customers will benefit from your product or service and then think how can you earn money from them. Always think first about your customers and then about you! If you want to make long lasting profitable business make relation with your clients so they get to know you, they will know you are delivering quality content and you over deliver and they will return again and again to buy more product from you. How to do that? First offer them valuable information for free and then sell your product. After they make purchase from you send them "Thank You" email for their purchase or even give them a call and then again send them free content they can benefit from. Do that again and again and you will have loyal clients who will buy from you religiously for a long long time and they will spread word about you everywhere. That way you are building long lasting business and not concentrating only on short term earnings. I think that is the goal of every serious online marketer, right ?!

    Best of luck to all!

    Franko

Never start a business that you don't like or know very well.

Be mindful and sensitive with the people you work with and with your customers.

Stop acting like you're the boss and listen to what the business and workers need.

Learn through experience and keep on trying new things.

Work things out even in times of loosing.

Hello folks~! I'm new here but wanted to throw in the best advice (mottos, really) I ever learned while working online. I wanted to narrow it down to one but I just could not decide between these two!

    "Features tell, benefits sell."
    and
"Successful people do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do."

The first is in regards to...well, any marketing really. Highlighting the features of a product will not help you sell it. The benefits will. My favorite example was a golf training example. Listing its features (how it works, what it does, etc) will not sell it, but listing the benefits (use this product for three months and you'll be good enough to beat your boss!) will.

The second hit me hard. I was looking at my online business as a hobby, or part-time work. That couldn't be further from the truth. Treat your business seriously and you will make serious income.
