Redirect OK for Backlinks?

If I want to track my traffic from backlinks, is it ok to use a redirect (such as tinyurl.com or mydomain.com/go/pagecode)?

Will doing that diminish the backlink juice?

Id like to explore this issue as well ... Ive got several places I have recently tried to place some backlinks to ezine articles and my blog posts but the allotted field cant hang with the huge URLS ...

I suspect it will be a problem.

In my case im using the .htaccess redirects ... I dont think google is getting to index jack when thats going on. Need to read up and hear / see some more.

Yeah, I guess it makes sense that a backlink can't be based on a redirect. But, I'd still like to hear from an expert who KNOWS for sure.

I am facing a this issue. I have directed several of my backlinks to a redirect page that goes to an affiliate site. Too early to tell the impact.

You will lose any and all PageRank if you use sites like tinyURL because the link is to tinyURL not you. If you want to track your incoming links traffic, then use something like Google Analytics.

Im using .htaccess as the redirect ... so the url im using for backlinking is

      www mydomain com/backlinkgoldmine

which may point to a blog post at www mydomain com/blog/mykillerpost

      Good bad Ugly?

At best sub optimal - but I think better than tinyurl ....

    What BlackBookProject said.
No question - if the link isn't to your domain you get zero Google (yahoo! etc) juice.

The links MUST be to your Domain, oif they are for search engine purposes.
