Paid Holiday home directory?

How difficult or easy are directories for holiday homes to setup? I'm not talking from a technical point of view I have the necessary contacts for the development of one but I'm talking more business side of things. I'm talking about moving into a market that already is established with strong competitors. Say you have a holiday cottage and you want it rented out you may approach websites to advertise your cottage on.

Does anyone have any experience with them?

Would it be a good marketing strategy to be scraping the results from other sites and use gureilla marketing to then contact those listings and offer them free listings on your site for a period of time (say 3month). Im thinking an opportunity for an upsell would exist at the end of the initial free listing. Also these listings populating the site would add some credability to the site.

    I think there is room for niche directories where you specialize in a certain area and build viewership with some good marketing. People love to thumb through an interesting looking directory and imagine themselves taking a vacation.

    It seems this is your main concern is being able to make money in a competitive market. The only way to succeed is to match the value and ease of use with your service or exceed the value. You have much more specialized knowledge in that specific sub niche. I am in a different niche. Say for example were talking about another niche then yours. Careful analysis of what your competitors are doing from A-Z to reverse engineer them and ultimately over deliver more value to them. Ask your self the question... How can I deliver more value then my top competitors in my circumstance?
