Non Niche Specific Bloggers. Need Help Key Wording This!

Hey Warriors

Sorry for the longer question than intended.

I have started a personal blog with no specific niche in mind and need some direction. It is a blog on sports, current events, pop culture, IM, politics etc.... you get the deal.

I'm not looking to get rich or anything off this thing as I have my money streams already set for now but will throw up adsense, some of my cpa offers and perhalps some clickbank just for fun. I enjoy writing and this is a fun hobby for me.

My question is how do you KW research this? (Main page KW?) Also, each post I write (probably one 400-1000 word post a day on a different topic) how would you KW this within this context. I hope someone out there is understanding what I am asking.

IM is tough, and I understand that as I do it all day long. THis is simply a fun blog which I would like to get out to as many people as possible.

regards,

  • Freemen,

Start by choosing some keywords related to the type of traffic you want to drive to the site. You may have to tweak your writing style to be more specific about the sports you write about. For example targeting baseball or football or whatever.

Use a keyword tool (Google has a good one) that will give you some ideas on the types of things people are searching for as well as search volume. In general you want words that have a high search volume but that are only moderate competitive.

If you just have a traditional blog, try and target one keyword per post. If you have pages like a traditional site, target one word per page. Build the entire post/page around that keyword phrase (ie putting it in the title, meta description and throughout the post).

    Hope that helps you,

    Hi

For a general blog like you describe, instead of doing "keyword" research, better to focus on topical items and let the keywords and long tails occur naturally.

Look for hot news stories, Google alerts and trending topics to find content that people are looking for "now".

Once you have some established traffic, use your analytics to see what keywords are bringing traffic and what keywords you are ranking for in Google.

Add or enhance content for the keywords that are bringing traffic and those you are ranking for.

As you do this you will strengthen your hold on those keywords and continue to find new keywords to target.

no point to figure out the keywords, Google figures it out for you. if you use google webmaster center, you'll see what phrases google sees as your keywords, which means what keywords google thinks you are ranking for. so expand your ideas on those keywords and write content around that, you should get more visits.
