How Much Time Does The Average Visitor Spend On Your Site?

According to Google Analytics, the visitors to my newest blog have spent an average of 4 minutes and 25 seconds per visit over the past 30 days.

How much time does the average visitor spend looking around your site?

What do you think is the ideal amount of time?

What do you do to make your visitor stay longer (and don't just say good content b/c that's obvious---get a little more specific.)

Personally I try and get the visitor to participate with polls, commenting, forums, etc. Also I think video is good (your own or borrowed). I am thinking of doing a video cooking show with my girlfriend (she spent 6 years in Italy and knows how to make killer lasagna among other things).

It really depends on which site they are at.

I have a local community website that people's average time on site is like 18 minutes and there average page views are 15.

But, this is a very targeted niche and it is a community site. So, you would expect people to stay longer.

That site is a community site for my local hometown.

So, it features local news and things of that nature. It also has a business directory and different types of advertising opportunities.

So, it is definitely different than what an Internet marketing type site would look like.

All my direct sales pages I usually have an average time spent on my site about 2 1/2 minutes. The bounce rate is usually anywhere from 70% to 85%

So, it is all about the type of site that you're building. If you are building a direct response sales page expect your time on site to be very low. Expect your bounce rate to be high.

But if you are building a forum or a community site expect the page views to be high and the time spent on site to be high.

But, in my experience a direct sales page will bring in more revenue than the community type site. So, it really does not matter how much time the visitor is spending on the site. It is about how much money they're giving you.

        Regards,

I think the amount of time spent at your site also helps your search engines rankings. It makes sense that if humans find your content interesting then you deserve to have more search engine visitors
