Question about how to sell a website

Hi Warriors,

I want to reach out to the warrior community to get some advice. I have a website I am looking to sell because my current engagements have become too cumbersome to keep up with what I have going on, and I am looking to sell one of my websites. I have tried selling on Flippa twice, but did not get an offer near the worth of my website/online business. I do not want to lose out on a sale, and I know the website I am selling has more worth than what has been offered to me. I am in no way trying to make a killing, just trying to get a fair offer in order to free up some of my time.

Has anyone had a positive experience selling a website on a marketplace other than Flippa? I am just looking for some guidance on where I might go to unload a website for a fair price. I have experience in purchasing, but not much in selling. I would really appreciate any advice from the community or any info anyone could pass on. I appreciate the help, and hope you all have a great weekend.

Also, please refrain from asking any details about the sale or the website. This post, in no way, is a solicitation. I am merely looking for advice. I completely respect the value and information the WF has given me over the last few years and definitely would never jeopardize that. I just want to make it clear that I am just looking for some guidance from anyone that may have been in my position before. Again, wish you all the best of luck with your online endeavors.

Hey Juicy J -- I see thousands of transactions a week on Flippa, and so might be able to give some insight as to why your site didn't sell the first time, if you're interested.

You say that the offers you got were below your site's value. How are you valuing your website?

Listing copy, proof of traffic/revenue and the auction title are small things that can have a huge impact on the kinds of buyers your listing attracts. If you're thinking about selling again (whether on Flippa or on a different marketplace), it might be a good idea to have an experienced seller review your listing. Feel free to PM me if you have questions!

I don't know if your site has any decent revenue or traffic, but those are the main selling points for sites. Even if you've put a lot of time and features in your site, people don't seem to value that very much.

Either Flippa or WF. You will need to have some proof to backup the value you want to achieve if you want to sell for the best price.

    1. Use a sales contract
    2. Offer it to your competitors. They'll already understand the marketplace and will see its immediate potential.

The value of a site is not what you as an owner places on it but what the market out there places on it . You may have put a lot of effort into it and that may lead to a false belief of what the site should be worth . Not saying you are valuing it wrong as I dont know your site or what you consider fair value for it .

It comes down very often to income your site is generating

You need to make sure that you highlight all the positives and explain bidders why they should bid . Also add a little extra value like free transfer and free hosting for x amonunt of months . Throw in some extra's , like a product you may have plr rights to etc.

Flippa is by far the most trafficked marketplace to sell your website.

If you didn't have luck with selling your website there might be some problems with your listing on expectations:

If your website had no revenue or profit you can't expect to sell it for more than few hundred even if you have unique design, content etc.

Selling websites is not about how much value YOU see in it but how much money buyer can make out of it and how much he is willing to pay for it. There is no such thing as "My website is better than the rest" it is just like the rest and the same rules apply to it.
Price equals 6-18 month revenue if you don't have revenue then you just have a hope. (Only if you have earnings proof and verified Google analytics data for at least 6 months)

I mentioned problems with Flippa listing, maybe you didn't have revenue proof, verified Google analytics, verified and established Flippa account, etc. There are hundreds of small details you should know before listing your website.

Without knowing what you were up to it is hard to judge what you did wrong but it seams that you made some fundamental mistakes in here.

More details would be helpful to give you some ideas on how you can sell this website but flippa definitely is the best option for websites worth up to $100,000
