Will a Wordpress blog likely outperform a Blogger hosted blog?

I know that quality of content will play a large part in overall performance, but does the Wordpress platform offer tangible benefits over using Blogger? Does Google favour Blogger? Are there any other superior blogging options that I should know about? Thanks.

You mean wordpress.com free blogs or self hosted wordpress blogs?
I would certainly prefer a self hosted wordpress blog as it gives alot of options to customize the blog as per your SEO needs.

Also remember that blogspot blogs now redirect to country level TLDs. So not a great step for SEO.

This is tricky, but I'll try to explain.

Firstly, Blogger is never going to be something that you own - so keep that in mind if you decide to use them, it won't be YOURS as much as your stuff on THEIR host.

That said, .blogspot blogs can perform well, but sites.google sites perform better.

Wordpress is highly extendable, and in an easy way. You can also take control of very important SEO aspects with the right plugins (yoast's wordpress SEO is the big one right now, and it is advised to NOT use All in One SEO anymore apparently)

Wordpress site will mean you own it.

If your blogger site does good, cool, but you are trapped there forever at that point. I don't personally like the way search results usually look for Blogger blogs, but it's preference. Again, something you have control of in Wordpress.

The potential for your site is better with wordpress, but if you're not ready to invest, it may be best to stick with Blogger until you are sure.

      Agree with you Brian!
A year and a half ago when first started blogging, I wanted to begin with blogger or WordPress.com but my husband insisted on learning to develop a WP theme and start it on a self-hosted account. Today I feel it was the best decision

WordPress does create a lot of problems if you make it feature rich; but at the end of the day all the frustrations and the time spent make you learn many new things.

I had a blogger site and ditched it quickly but my own site took so much longer to out perform the ditched one, but worth the extra effort in the end.
