INTERNET MARKETING

My #1 guilty pleasure is gossip. I love gossip about celebrities, myself, niche markets, you name it. And I also love social networking.

So this tool I found today which many of you may already know was a FUN one for me, but I know it'll come in handy for research purposes, too.

It's called WhosTalkin and it's a social media search engine. Link:

Now I spent (too much) time searching myself. It was fun finding discussions I wasn't privvy to about me and my services.

But let's take a few examples of real niches:

Type abs into the WhosTalkin search engine and you get a list of the following results where conversations may have taken place with that keyword or phrase:

(Now if I ONLY want to see Twitter, I simply click the Twitter link and it filters for me. So I might, as a marketer, go befriend people talking about working on their abs)

(so using this section, I might find relevant news about my niche and make a blog post. For example, if dating is my niche, and I type Dating into WhosTalkin and choose the news section, I find that dating violence is a BIG topic right now. Might spur me with an idea to write or promote this type of product.)

This tool is awesome because it doesn't return regular sales pages or company pages - it's more about social media conversations taking place, which is vitally important to me because it reflects the true consensus of the consumer.

Sounds like a recipe for wasting lots of time . I use Google Alerts because anything that gets 'out there' properly usually ends up on one of their sources.

Well I use Google Alerts too and found several things I wasn't altered to...so I guess using a two-pronged approach is best

How do you format your entries if they are more than one word, say 2 or 3, or a full name?

  You just put it in quotes I did "Tiffany Dow" so it filters out everything about Tiffany jewelry and the Dow market. lol

It is better than google. It gives me the latest news, vs GOOG gives me information about win95 because the site has > 100,000 links. Guess what GOOG, brand new web pages have few links. GOOG is gr8 for information that is oldy & moldy.

Great tool, Tiffany! I also like Addictomatic: Inhale the Web - and I agree, there are a number of times my name or my product names are mentioned that are NOT picked up by Google alerts.

I also like Twitter Alerts - TweetBeep.com for mentions of me on Twitter.
