Server / Hosting - Fast but low traffic to begin with. Amazon? Rackspace?

I want to build a wordpress membership site and I want it to be fast right from the start.

I'm looking at server options.

But I'm starting small. If I could pay per actual traffic, that would be ideal.

1. Is Amazon an option for this? Looking at AWS, it looks like this might be designed for server-experts...pretty technical people - I'm not technical, though if Amazon is the best option, I will try to figure it out. Would this free offer do the job?: AWS Free Usage Tier

2. How about the Rackspace Cloud Account?

3. Godaddy Cloud Hosting? Godaddy VPS?


(I have other wordpress sites and a CakePHP site - these are on Godaddy hosting at the moment - if I don't stick with that hosting, ideally at some stage I'll want to move these too.)

    Bluehost all the way. It's really fast. Highly recommended. You don't need a VPS or anything like that yet. If you do need a VPS for some reason, try Linode.

    anyone know of an impartial speed comparison report of shared / cloud / non-VPS / not-dedicated hosting: godaddy vs bluehost vs hostgator vs etc...?

    Have you taken a look in the Web Hosting Offers section?


    That being said, you'd be fine with most shared hosting plans. I would advice against using a company that tells you they're giving you "unlimited space/bandwidth". There's no such thing & they tend to be overloaded servers.

    As far as a comparison report for those hosts...you need to weed through the affiliate junk sites with fake reviews first.

    There's plenty of other hosts out there that will give you way better performance that the mainstream affiliate pushed web hosts being spoken of here.
