Are There A Market For Ebook For Parents

Hi Entrepreneurs,

I hope you can give some feedback to me. I have been conducting workshops
and seminars for children and youth for the past 6 years in the area of motivation and entrepreneurship.

If I were to write an ebook to share with parents how to raise motivated kids, do you think there's a market?

But this ebook is only a marketing tool for them to know about us, and eventually sign up for our program. Do you think it will work?

Thanks for your feedback.

I'd imagine it could be a huge market. But why not also sell an e-book on how to motivate your children?

I've seen marketers of all kinds come through here with ebooks
they have written about subjects they were "qualified" to write
about - parenting being one of them.

    Here's the issue -

There a ZILLIONS of parenting books in print.

Now where does an ebook fit into that market?

    ###

You have to look not only at the size of the market,
but the need the people in the market have to
buy a product that is not that different from many
other easy-to-get products, like books and magazines
    about parenting.

It raises the question - if there are a lot of books in
print and they keep printing them it makes sense that
this sort of thing can do well in print.

    Why?

Perhaps libraries and bookstores buy them.

Where does an ebook fit into that market?

    Answer: it doesn't.

Question: how do you enter a market with saturation
    in print?

Answer: locate a niche with that market (get Gordon
Burgett's books on niche marketing for writers) and
    develop a print-book with it.

    ###

I see many people going to great lengths to write and
try to market an ebook of their own when the market
is already saturated in print AND it is difficult to sell
to on a DESPERATE NEED basis.

Let's face it - in most cases people buy because they
have a fire to get some information - "a need or a greed"

Is there such a principle operating with 1000s of parenting
    books in print?

I don't think so. I think your average parent will truck on
down to the library and check out 10 books rather than
    buy your ebook.

It can be very frustrating for beginning marketers to learn
this - the area you know something about is not necessarily
    an area with:
    a) a ready and motivated online market
    b) not much competition in print
    c) specific information people will readily pay for
    d) an easily-reached and large-enough market to make
    the promotional effort worthwhile.

    ###

If you read Bugett's stuff you will find out that doing the
math and research to explore whether it is worth writing
your book and paying to print it actually puts a lot of
concepts out of the running... and also leads to new ideas -
While on the internet the lack of printing costs actually
leads to a lot of ebooks being written for markets that
    are basically not profitable.

I am not saying you don't have an ebook worth writing.

Questions: Is an ebook the best format? Is the market
wanting an ebook? Is the market reachable with electronic
direct marketing or is it best reached through libraries,
    bookstores, and book fairs?

Whatever you choose to do you'll learn a lot.

Just get the Burgett books. Dan Poynter is good too.

    Thank you guys.
    Loren, that was very insightful.

I will definitely do more research. That's why I start by asking people around here first.

Matthew, you are right about the parents forum. That will be the best place to start.

Is your program local or would you be able to take in a help out other people out of state etc? If not then you need to find an area to promote this ebook to areas around you. Target your marketing that way. However if you can and its an online type program then by all means you can. I would suggest once your book is done add a signature file and chat away with people on forums by doing a search on Google for "Parenting forums" There is a market for everything you just need to learn where your nich market congergates and who you can take on into your program if its local, state or world wide.
    Hope this helps you out

Here's a simple solution you might not have thought of...

    Don't start with a ebook.

    Start with a short report.

    5-10 pages max.

With your existing expertise you should be able to knock it out in a day or two.

Choose the "hottest" topic your market would be interested in.

Create an opt-in page and offer the report for free.

    Drive traffic from Adwords.

You'll know if there is interest within a week.

Wow, I'm overwhelm by the response. All of you gave me new ideas of how I should go about it.

Did a research on a parenting forum, found out that there are very little resources on raising confidence kids, or building your kids with self esteem.

You don't want to know what there isn't.

You want to know what there is.

Are there people looking for resources?

Are they willing to pay for them?

Those are the questions your research needs to answer.

Find out if anyone will give you an email address then go from there.

Id guess there is, but I think in a world of brand-driven edutainment, you will have some challenges establishing credibility over the kidhype....megablocks, baby Einstein, so many babysRUS, I think the trick will be to establish a pretty narrow area and widen out from something smaller you can 'own', ...i.e. if you say you are keen on doing something on confidence with kids, find some kind of starpower, a star story, or a brand association, that gives you some unique marketability...I have released many DVDs in my businsess and the kids sector, though we had lovely product, was hard to move units at retail unless it was big brand driven by large TV campaings....
