Do You Think a Website on Reptile Care Would be a Hit?

Hi.

I am thinking about setting up a new website but I thought I would get your opinion first before I start working on it.

I set up websites before but I gave up on them after awhile because I was not passionate about the niches. The only website which I continue to update regularly is my blog and it seems to be doing well.

Anyways, I want to create a website in a niche that I am passionate about.

...And I just happen to love reptiles, lizards, snakes, etc.

I am sure there are already thousands of websites in this niche though so I don't know if I should target it... what do you think?

I was thinking of aiming a sub niche like how to take care of your iguana, how to catch lizards, or snakes, etc.

Assuming it is a good idea and I get the website up...

What do you think would be the best way to monetize it?

Adsense? I don't think so. Email list? Maybe (Not sure if products on this niche sell though) Amazon products? Maybe.

As you can see I am not sure of a lot of things. Just let me know what you think

Thanks.

Sure why not, reptiles are popular and if you could monetize it with something from Amazon I can´t see why you shouldn´t do it. Toys are popular and reptile toys are sure to sell.

Yes good sub niche, check commision junction, may find more products relating to this niche, build your site and join as affiliate for the companies related to your niche, also join forums relating to niche as well, and build your list to promote.

    Good luck.

you have to research on the niche, go to reptile lovers forums see what they are talking about, go to google keywords tool see if there are searches for it, go check out the domographics find out the the reptile lovers are (Boys, men, etc) see if its worth it to try.

It sure can be a hit for people who share the same passion as yours.. Amazon products and different affiliate products might be a good idea for this type of sub niche. Honestly, you can split test different monetization techniques once the site is up and when you're getting a good amount of traffic. Good luck

Absolutely! Check clickbank also...I once found a couple of very well designed websites selling information on reptile care. I'm sure they'll help you create a few subniches in your sites...

    Hello

There are many people interested in the reptile niche, and providing you choose good keywords, I think you could do well.

If I were to set up a website in this niche my first port of call would be the Google Keyword tool. From there I could determine which sub-niche to get into, and gather some good low competition - high search volume keywords.

I would also check out the strength of the competition on the first page of Google for those keywords.

You can then set up your website and use your keywords to write articles for it.

I would monetize it using Adsense, and Amazon products. You could also find a good reptile care guide to promote (or write one yourself and sell it directly). There may be people out there who are thinking about keeping a reptile as a pet and are looking for good information - and will be willing to pay money for it.

If you are unsure about anything - the best way to "Get sure" about it is to test and try it out.

I chose this niche (and I can't stand reptiles personally) when I reviewed One Week Marketing - the site always makes money for me. I set it up for AdSense, Amazon stuff, and ClickBank eBooks. All of them sell.

  • Well, everything is possible. All you need to do is to have something in your website that will make it worth the visit. Be sure that other reptile lovers can relate to your site. I suggest you put videos and pictures. For an instance, you mentioned about catching lizards, it will be more effective if you will provide your viewers with a video of you in action, catching a lizard.

If Tiffany is making money with the niche and can't stand reptiles, imagine the potential that's there for someone that is passionate about the niche? You'll be able to direct a lot of energy into the site based on your love for reptiles and your visitors will feel and sense it.

    I say go for it.

Really need to stop thinking this way. Doesn't matter how many people/websites are targeting a niche. You also don't need the niche to be huge to make a lot of money. Do your KW research, and go from there.

I'd also suggest writing/outsourcing your own guide book (use amazon and find books already written, use their table of contents as a guide for research/structure).

Definitely go with the email capture. Make a version of your book a free guide, and make that the focus of the user experience. Getting them on your list will get your conversions up from less than 3% to 6% and higher as you get to offer them the book repeatedly over the next 10 days or so.

That's a great niche! I would go for it. You could give advice and pitch products at the same time. I would recommend you use video to increase engagement.

Most pet niches are great and you have an advantage if you actually do like those critters. Blogs are far more interesting (and successful) when someone has knowledge of and passion for a niche.

I was planning on doing something in the aquarium niche, so I was researching this too (maybe we could collaborate? )... anyway, basically from what I've found, the best way to monetize is with affiliate products, because generally (well for me anyway, but reptile setups aren't that different), people can often spend $100 + on a setup (many are in the thousands), and they often do research before purchasing products. so if you can convince them to purchase products from you that can be a lot of money for you (supplies on amazon for example).

Secondly, I plan on building an email list for people who are interested but don't want to buy products from me, so I can keep them coming to my site, and maybe when it gets bigger sell ad space to companies selling the products, or stay with affiliates, or some of each. Also you can promote affiliate things in the mail list too.

Good luck, and let me know if you want to collaborate with me .

Sounds like a good plan. Contact me at timothy.f.gagnon@gmail.com

I am quite excited about this website actually since I always loved taking care of pets (cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, even bugs) and most of you think it is a good idea.

So I am going to follow through! Just doing some keyword research now.

Unfortunately, I don't have a pet reptile yet... but there is a cheeky little lizard living in a bush outside my house and I think it is about time to catch him, hehe.

      Thanks for the support!

I am guessing Amazon products will sell well on the website. Like, terrariums, heat lamps, etc.

Do you think I should include Adsense as well? Or will it just make the website look messy?

Glad your exited, that increases the chances of it doing well. Keyword research is very important but also get a plan for marketing it and write some articles beforehand to make sure you don't fall behind. You may also want to take a few minutes in order to check out your competition.

Catch that lizard, but before see if you can identify him and his requirements. You can make him a nice simple home in a 10g aquarium probably ($10 at petco). Make sure to keep him healthy and a hands on experience can help you a lot.

I definitely recommend amazon and feel like it'll be your may income earner. You can try your hand at adsense but I would recommend max one or two descent size ads because most of the ads will be for things your trying to sell via. amazon however ads have a higher conversion rate than people buying things. (generally)

        Good luck!

I remember a friend telling me about his pet reptiles and how much he spends, and it is just astounding. I think if you do the proper keyword research, you could be sitting on gold. I would suggest checking on Clickbank, tradebit, payloadz, etc., for various things you could promote. Also, Amazon affiliate program is a good place for non-info products. If people are willing to spend hundreds, if not thousands on it, I think you have a winner.

Are there magazines and books on reptile care? If so, you can definitely make good money in the niche.

You are on the right track, from personal experience, it's so much easier to write about something you are passionate about vs. something just to make money.....a source of monetization would be to have a paid continuity program, or membership site where people can interact, participate in monthly webinars that you host, and where you can provide other members only information.......Good luck and keep us posted !

Another thing I've noticed is that while many websites on my topic aquariums (and most likely yours reptiles too) have large databases full of content however most of it is literally from the experts and something that deterred me. however i feel like many of these sites were written with content in mind, so you have the ability to get ahead of them with marketing. there are also some descent sized forums out there but most don't let you advertise, which also deterred me and that along with the other thing are the two main things that deterred me, however this seems to be the same with any niche so if you try your best and work hard to share your knowledge the experts or the niche may not visit your site but your largest market the beginners searching google will, and those guys often are beginning to spend money and don't know where to go
