Sell via email or on website?

Hello to all. I've been lurking for a while, finally joined a couple of months ago and made a few possibly misplaced posts. . . sorry. Firstly, by way of introductions, I am a relative newbie with visions of the lifestyle a somewhat passive income would bring. Yes, aren't we all? I have dabbled a bit with websites and wandered aimlessly about with no direction or plan. I won't mention how long it has been, at least not in this post.

I am truly amazed at the wealth of information, wisdom and experience that is shared here. I am so thankful for this forum and hope to one day be able to give back from my own experiences. Thanks to you all for making this such an awesome community!

I am happy to say that as a result of immersing myself in this forum, I finally have a plan. Article marketing as described here by such notables as Alexa, MYOB and many others (no disrespect; these two just came to mind first!), actually resonates with me as it's all about real relationship building. I can appreciate that this business model is a tough one but one which has the potential to generate massive rewards if executed well. There is much to learn.

Well, the issue is that I am drafting 2 plans and I am not sure how to set up each website. Do you ever sell products directly on your website or are your customers only able to access your offers through emails (with links to your sales pages) after opting in for your free offer?

Plan 1 is niche website, Plan 2 is to sell my book. I'm struggling with set up for the book as it seems logical to always use an opt in so I am building a list/business. But I see many book sites with just the sales page and bam, buy now, affiliates section, etc. but no optin. Is that because affiliates may not want to sell it then? I'm trying to set up the book site in similar fashion to the niche site with content, promotion via article marketing and other methods. Does this make sense?

Can anyone please help to shed some light on this? Things are a little murky and I feel like I am so close to that lightbulb moment but things aren't quite clicking. I'm sure I am overthinking it. I probably need to step away for a moment. And yes, I need to pick 1 project. . .maybe I'll post about that separately.

I hope you can forgive my lengthy post. Thanks to all. I am happy to be here.
