24 days of hard work and no traffic...

Hi guys.

I am new to the Internet thing , was trying to build a website that gets a lot of visitors, so I could earn at least 1000 dollars a month.
I have been working for two weeks on my website Upload & Rank Your Cat's picture! - a game for rating the pictures of cats, and then I switched to trying to build another website . I thought that maybe cat lover community would like the game, I thought to write about my website on one of the cat forums, but the forum rules don't allow for advertising.

Can you advise on how to promote the game, and if you think it is possible?

Have a nice day,
Valentin

Your journey will start at keyword research and market research. Find out where your target audience is hanging out at and what they are searching for. Set up some paid campaigns to get fast traffic. Decide what type of free strategy you will use... There are several. Stick with that method. Get creative and find a way to include leverage to get more and more traffic. Use the keywords and look at your competitors to find the content that your audience really likes to see. Come back after the next 90 days after getting consistent with your paid and free strategy and update us...

  • ***HEADS UP: LONG POST***

Grab current and recent back issues of the best selling magazines for pet and cat lovers in your target areas. Say if you're targeting US markets, then find out the hottest US pet/cat magazines. Also:

You can check out the best selling magazines here in Amazon's top selling magazines and select some that's closely related to the pet/cat niche. Then, you can go to this magazine article search database[/URL] to read more about wildly popular topics discussed by the cover stories of those magazines, particularly topics closely related to your niche and micro niches. Next:

List down the headlines of those relevant cover stories. Why?

The print industry is among the most competitive industries to date, thanks to the Internet and many online publication networks. This means if those magazines are still doing a killing, then they're doing something right --

They're covering the most relevant, timely, interesting, entertaining, popular and useful topics for their target markets. They have large teams of professional researchers, market analysts and journalists, after all. And:

They're grabbing the attention of their target markets, enough for those people to grab them off the racks, with those killer headlines and cover stories. They employ prolific copywriters, photojournalists, visual advertising and graphics design experts, after all. So, what you can do are the following:

    1. Use those headlines and cover stories to develop ideas for your own post headlines and topics/sub topics. Then:

    2. Choose the best headline and topic/sub topic coverage from your set of ideas, and develop a comprehensive info material about it. Post this on your website as a download offer upon mailing list subscription. Next:

    3. Use the rest of your headline and topic/sub topic coverage ideas as excellent "trailer" or "preview" content materials, then publish them as posts on your website. By "trailer" or "preview" content materials = These materials should serve as enticing content, so your target viewers would think and feel that if you're offering mindblowing content in your website, then your download offer could surely be more mindblowing, not to mention your products/service offers. At this point, you need traffic. So:

    4. Go to www.technorati.com/blogs/directory, and select a category or sub category that's closely related to the pet/cat niche and your micro niches (refer to the topics/sub topics covered by your download offer and posts mentioned above). A list of blogs will be displayed. Next:

    5. Choose blogs that cover closely related topics/sub topics, then zone in on blogs that are not operated by corporations or big businesses. Then:

    6. Go to those blogs. Study the most relevant, most recent and most popular posts in those blogs (in this order of priority). Study the titles/headlines, content, categories/sub categories and keyword tags of those most relevant, most recent and most popular posts. Next:

    7. Compare this data against the topics/sub topics covered by your posts. Formulate ideas for guest post content that will serve as:

    (a) Excellent follow-up posts to those most relevant, most recent and most popular posts in those blogs; and also as
    (b) Excellent "preview" or "trailer" content for the posts in your website. Next:

    8. Take note of the contact details of the owners/webmasters of those blogs (email addresses, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, contact form URLs, etc.). Then:

    9. Develop the content of those guest posts. Select posts in your website that will offer supplemental content not found in those guest posts. Link those posts from your guest posts. Then:

    10. Contact those blog owners/webmasters. Offer your guest posts. Also tell them that you're interested in establishing a regular content contributor partnership with them. Afterwards:

Also implement other natural, entirely whitehat traffic generation campaigns for your website, such as forum marketing, video marketing and social networking. That's it. To close this long post:

We've been doing these things for our clients since 2010, and take a look at the US traffic estimates of this site and this one in www.compete.com, as well as the Google PR, Alexa rank (important for tech sites) and SEMRush stats of those sites in www.rankchecker.com...

Thanks Marx Vergel Melencio and jamesrich1 for the detailed explanation.
Where can I click 'Thank you'?

Is it good money investment to make banner ads? I could work on my site, load it with news, pet information and pay other pet sites to do banner ads. Or it is not as good now as getting high position in Google? Or ,I think , both should be done.

How many visitors a day are needed to make about 1000$/month?
Is this a feasible goal? How much time would it require, if I do my best and implement all the advice and do a great job, and I have no other job, to make it?

      Thank you,
      Valentin

        Hi Valentin

Don't get disheartened. You have done the hard work already, the rest should be fun.

What I mean by that is your game sounds perfect for Social sites like Facebook. You should also try a Squidoo lens that links to it.

Concentrate on using Facebook and getting people to post their cat pictures on your Fanpage then direct them to your game. You'll find millions of cat lovers on Facebook and a never ending supply of traffic if you play it right.

And it should be fun, remember?

How do you plan to earn money from your site? Here are some ways:

Developing and Selling Your Own Relevant Products and Service Offers - Self-explanatory.

Affiliate Marketing = You can sign up as an affiliate of credible product developers/merchants/manufacturers with products and service offers that your target viewers will find useful and of reasonable value for their time and money. You can promote these products in your site and newsletters, via banner and text links, using your affiliate link. You earn commissions for each lead and/or sale you generate for those product merchants/developers/manufacturers.

CPA Marketing - You can promote CPA offers in your site and newsletters, so your viewres can get relevant rewards, discount offers and incentives among other things they could find useful for their needs. You earn commissions for each "qualified" viewer who filles out or completes those CPA offers, with "qualified" referring to a set of specifications required by the CPA advertiser, i.e. Country, age, etc.

CPC, CPM, Monthly and Email Ads - Get paid for each CPC ad click, for each set of 1000 unique CPM ad views, from offering a fixed monthly private ad space rate on your site and a fixed price for ad spaces on your newseltters and emails sent to your mailing list subscribers...

There are other ways, such as site flipping, various lead generation services and so on...

I think for a game like this, social media is the way to go. A really funny picture with a link to your game on the bottom of the picture could end up going viral if the picture is strange enough. I think you will find trying to advertise this in a magazine is a mistake. Direct mail for this likely won't work. A banner ad might work if it's on the right site (pet supplies, pet blogs, etc.)

Test until you find something but don't give up.

Hi Valentin, I checked out the source code of your website above. You really ought to add the following between your "Head" tags and change the capitalized words for the relevant tag -

    <meta name="description" content="SITE TITLE">
    <meta name="keywords" content="KEYWORDS">
    <meta name="author" content="YOUR NAME">

This will help with your SERPs.

    Hope this helps,

    Ray

Hi Ray, thanks, I will add the META tags to my site.
A lot of thanks to Marx Vergel Melencio.

There are a lot of ways to make money, but every way requires a lot of visitors to the website. No visitors means no money I think.

I recently grew traffic to a site just through forum and blog commenting so I can recommend those. Google cat forums and blog forums and you should get plenty of sites to look into. If you narrow your blog search to the last 24 hours you will find current, active threads to comment on.

If you can identify competitors put their sites into backlinkwatch.com for more ideas.

I also agree with JPaston that cat lovers on Facebook should be a good source of traffic.

        Good luck
        David

Why does everyone try to push a download offer or building a list? It doesn't work with every website, but I guess if all you have is a hammer every problem looks like a nail... He's doing a website on funny cat pictures... He could try to push an email list, but he's going to have a hard time selling something to people through that list since it's unrelated to the website at hand.

Regardless, 2 weeks isn't really enough time to build up rankings or enough traffic in such a competitive niche. There are a LOT of funny cat pictures websites already out there, so you really have to provide a reason for why you are better than them. Otherwise Google will just keep you on the back burner.
