    G'day timwal,

Here's what you do. On your blog, you use two forms of opt-ins: lightbox and sidebar opt-in. This will be a popup on your blog and there will also be a form in the sidebar for viewers to opt-in. That's how you get heaps of conversions just from your blog.

In addition to that, you use a squeeze page so that when they get on that page, you get conversions also.

What I'm saying is that you use both.

    Thanks,
    CTL

What the above posters said is true. The more chances you present your visitors to opt in, the more opt ins you're going to receive, obviously. Make sure to track everything, that's when you'll see which option works best for your particular site and niche and then maybe get rid of a form that just uses up space but doesn't convert nearly as well as the other opt-in methods.

One is for a landing page or blog to collect emails.

The other is a whole page dedicated to collecting emails and leads.

To see what converts the most You Need to

    TEST, TEST, TEST

A squeeze page that is designed for your niche will outperform a pop up. Those who use a pop up usually do so by way of slide in or exit pop.

This is not saying the standard squeeze is what will work for your niche. There are as many ways to create a converting squeeze as there are ways to lose conversions lol.

Perfect advice. Squeeze pages convert better then pop ups because you force a person to make a decision. Move forward or leave.

Pop up are the best because it grab attention. Works best when someone come to your blog through search engine. But for emails and all that I think squeeze page with exit.

Popups can become rather annoying, but I would suggest split testing.

Pop ups work well on certain sites, not so well on others. Testing eliminates the guess work I believe.

Since squeeze pages are specifically designed to collect emails, a squeeze page would probably work better... but as everyone else said... only testing will tell.

Test one for about a couple of days and go with the other one for the same day. You'll see the difference between it it's all about testing to see what beats the other, you don't know if you don't try right?

Everyone telling you to test are absolutely right.

If it helps you organize your testing, if you have a high content, high value site, consider also testing the delay before your pop-up appears. If people read a few sentences of the page they land on and like what they see, they are more likely to pay attention to whatever you are pimping.

If your content is really good, some of course will want to keep reading and click away that pesky shadow box to get back to the good stuff, but that's where a sidebar optin is handy, to get their info afterwards.

Again, every site will be different, but I've found slightly longer delays (8-10 seconds) can work on technical sites where visitors are more likely to get stuck into your content. Shorter periods are better for gossip/news sites as visitors are more likely to look for instant gratification before moving on, so you gotta nab 'em while you can.

Try out some combination and see what works for your site.

greatly depends on the audience you are targeting. If you have great content on your blog that engages readers and answers important questions in the niche, then the less aggressive lightbox+sidebar is absolutely the way to go (however, as CTL pointed out, you can still incorporate squeeze pages within your site where appropriate).

On the other hand, if you are *not* providing great content; if in your honest assessment your site is not adding real value, then the classic incentive/squeeze is the way to go.

[Edit: Just to clarify - if your site is merely a shell to primarily capture leads and build a list, then squeeze is the best choice.]

In my opinion, you should use both.

A squeeze page is essential, The squeezr page will provide the information needed for the visitor to WANT to opt in..

A pop up is jist annoying but it catches some optins..

A pop up will have lower conversion rate...

Not necessarily. My lightbox converts at 43% whereas my squeeze only 42%.

Personally, for my first attempt I'm going with a dedicated squeeze page. The way I see it, a popup presents an option to dismiss the opt in and get on with free content which would hurt your conversion rate.

This of course, is because building my list is my only priority. If I had a great blog with a dedicated readership, I might think differently.

It all depends on your goals. But I like to personally use a simple landing page with only two options... Subscribe or leave You could test out a landing page versus a content locking program over your blog and see which performs better.
