Coachers/mentors, how do you accept payment? (for $100 - $500+ an hour)

If you are a coacher or mentorer, how do you accept payment from your clients?

and are there any payment companies you prefer over others, which you have had bad experiences with ?

Being unable to accept payments by PayPal will put you at a disadvantage over others offering similar/related services. I don't have the experience to suggest that PayPal is "the best", but not offering it as a payment method (with/without other alternatives) isn't going to help you, for sure.

(I don't mean this "impolitely" in any way, I hasten to stress, but if planning to offer your professional services here, then joining the War Room will also perhaps enhance your credibility a little, just because of the way it shows, next to your posts).

Nowadays, not being able to allow your customers to make payment by paypal it's a very very pain in the ass!
On the other hand, paypal and its policy won't let you have total control about your funds as they are totally owner of your funds and by using its service you automatically accept this (even if it's written in a somewhat incomprehensible manner in their TOS).

Of course, there are many credit card processors out there, you can use liberty reserve, payza, moneybookers and credit card processor companies too!!! Just be aware that every choice has its own pros and cons.

I think it would. If you can take payments by "BACS" or something similar?

Many people will prefer to pay for such services by PayPal though, partly for the convenience and familiarity, and partly for the added protection that gives them (a) according to PayPal's terms of service, and (b) by using a credit-card to pay PayPal giving them additional protection on top of that.

Very few (if any) people will be willing to pay by Liberty Reserve, which is about as inconvenient as you can get. It also has something of the cachet of being a "scammers' paradise" due to the fact that some highly questionable "opportunities" take only Liberty Reserve simply because no other financial institutions are willing to do business with them.

Google Checkout may be another viable alternative for you, though its terms of service vary in some significant ways from country to country?

Would google checkout, and 2co be fine if you accepting money for coaching?

or would require plans of your model and other questions, such as how you offer it etc?

because each coaching call will be different, and dependant on each client.

            Sorry, I don't know.

Google Checkout and ClickBank do certainly accept "services" as well as "digital products". I'm not sure about 2Checkout. And I'm not familiar with how any of them "validate"/"approve" services.

(2Checkout does have the advantage that customers can pay there by PayPal, though if you're offering PayPal anyway, that perhaps wouldn't matter too much).

Given that you'll offer PayPal, I think the real issue is how to accept credit-card payments from people who don't want to pay by PayPal, isn't it? Your own merchant account, in the long run, might be best ... but it can be something of a work-up to arrange one. My guess is that almost everyone among your client demographics will probaby be willing to use PayPal? It's admittedly a good idea to have a substitute ready to use, additionally, in case of PayPal account difficulties. But starting off with just PayPal and/or BACS bank-transfers available can't be much of a problem, here? People don't even need their own PayPal account, to pay you by PayPal (if they have a credit-card, and people without a credit-card mostly have a bank-linked PayPal account anyway?).

Never charge per hour, instead create a value based contract that benefits you and your client.

People are interested in how much they can make, not how good you are. If you can clearly and credibly illustrate that you can help someone make x amount of dollars, they should have no problem with paying you premium fees for your advice and time.

Look into Authorize.net. If you are dealing with more than say $3,00-$4,000 a month in revenue brought in, I'd say it definitely becomes worth your time to pay the fees at Authorize.net. And then get Freshbooks for billing Personally, I LOVE the combo.

I have a 1 Shopping Cart account and an Authorize.net merchant account. The combo lets me accept all major credit cards as well as PayPal.

I was also just hired by my mentor of 2 years to coach HER clients (as she's no longer coaching the public directly) and she'll be paying me via PayPal each month.

        Hope that helps!

As a service provider its crucial to for ANY payment solution for you customers.

So this should be the last thing on your customers mind, if they have the money you need to accommodate any payment method.

here are a few I like:

    1. Paypal (popular and easy)
    2. Authorize.net
    3. Google Checkout
    4. Amazon Payment
    5. Stripe
    6. Moneybookers (is one of the best)
    7. 2checkout
    8. Bank Transfer (there is a set fee internationally and takes 2-3 days)
    9. Western Union - (this is a bit annoying.. because you have to leave the house both to deposit and withdraw the money

I've accepted payment via check, cash, PayPal and even barter...

One thing though - I'm very "weird" about who I coach... Meaning I make sure they are they type of person I want to work with... Doing it this way has allowed me to get really awesome students who are committed and prevented any big refunds when using PayPal.

Some coaches have been burned when using PayPal - but to be fair - the stories I've heard when this happened the coaches weren't exactly doing what they were paid to do.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Coby

I use a combination of Freshbooks and PayPal. Mainly Freshbooks, but I've been dabbling with PayPal more often lately.
