What's the best approach in setting up website with video content

Hi All,

I need some advice on the best way to set up a website where people pay a one-off fee and get access to online training for a year.
Do I need to set it up as a membership site or is there any other way of achieving this? What would be the best theme and plugin to use? Is there a way of getting users automatically set up with an expiry date.
Any advice regarding this and any other things I ought to consider is welcome.

Thanks,

Sola

You should go with membership sites and they are really easy to set up.

I think this free plugin will help you do exactly do what you are trying to do...

    Hope this helps...

Thanks Bharatnt. Are there any disadvantages to using the free version?

    Hi solae,

If you really don't want to use a membership site then why not provide them with a download link to the videos after they've paid?

      Adamreilly1997,
Ideally, I don't want to provide a download link and will prefer for them to watch it online. I don't mind using membership sites. I would just like to explore the options available and select the best approach.

If you're considering going for the membership approach I would strongly recommend Kajabi.

Kajabi will allow you to have the membership site put together in mere minutes and will show you how to build anticipation to your product release as well. When you have time check them out.

    Kind regards

Thanks Tim. However, kajabi seems quite expensive as it requires a monthly payment. I need something with initial low costs.

What about uploading the videos onto a page? After they purchase your product they are redirected to that page and can watch the videos online.

I think a membership site would be the best way to go.

What is the best membership plugin?

  • Optimize Press is an awesome solution. It costs $97, but it's totally worth it. It will save you so much time and hassle. I understand that not everyone has the money for it, but it is useful in many ways. It's already saved me a few dozen hours, which has been totally worth the money to me.

I thought Optimize press is a wp theme. Can I use it on it's own as a membership site without a plugin?

While OP is a theme, it does have some basic membership features, but those aren't developed enough to be used as a true membership plugin.

OP best works as a theme, in conjunction with a dedicated membership plugin.

I would roll with the membership site. aMember is a good one to use.

People can easily download video these days. Unless you are offering a lot of new content each month, nobody would renew after a year anyway.
The plan is to create a training course that will not be updated regularly and charge a one-off payment of $49 for a year's access.

The benefits of a membership plugin is more than just providing a secure content delivery page.

For example, if you just provide a temporary download page, your support emails and tickets will shoot up immediately, with questions like...

"My internet connection/browser/computer crashed. How do I get back to the download page again?"

"I lost the downloads/disk crashed - can you send it to me again?"

"The file download failed halfway through - file is corrupt. File won't open.... Can you forward me the link again?"

    You get the point.

So it's all about automating the process, not just for your buyers, but for you as well.

Then how about being able to send them follow-up emails? Sell more products? Make upsells? Get them to refer others?

You see how quickly a download-page solution can become inadequate.

So better to go for a "membership plugin" even if you don't really use it for memberships - could be used for one-time delivery products too.

Thanks. A membership plugin seems to be the better option and I will start investigating the one to use.

      +1 to Ravi

There are many advantages of using full-featured solution: flexible content access control, affiliate management, integrated helpdesk for customer questions, automatic mailing list management.

Check out DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) which comes built-in with content protection, content dripping, shopping cart, affiliate program, mailing list, autoresponders, etc.

We also offer an integrated helpdesk as an additional plugin.

        Just FYI.

Hey, we can give you a special "competitor discount" if you want... LOL! Just kidding :-)

It was actually directed at solae, but must've hit the wrong "quote" button :-)

Cheers and have a great weekend y'all!

Would not say "no" to a discount. Might just send you a Christmas gift if the discount is big enough.
