Easy method for transferring wordpress sites to a new host?

Hi All,

I have had one quote for $50 (from a friend) to move one of my four sites that I have on a single IP to a new host (single domain for each IP). I have all sites as sub-folders on a hostgator account, but am concerned that this will not be of any seo value as they are in the same niche, and point to same money sites etc.

I enquired at bluehost but they said they dont support transfers, just pointed me to a random link that summarised how to do it, rather than providing any actual examples.

As I am a novice at domain transfers and coding and as I don't want to have issues with the transfers ... I am seeking guidance ,, is it even something that a novice should attempt?

If you're a true novice at this stuff, I'd recommend hiring the work out.

    Some quick options:

You could go with a host that will provide transfers.

You could also post a "help wanted" add here on the forum:

You could peruse the Warriors for Hire section:

    One question ..

Is it possible to hire someone to do it the first time, and pay them to give explicit instructions of how to do it for any other site?

I am concerned from past experiences that I would not get a back up tool that would allow it to unpack in the form that allows easy transfer etc. Guess I have been spoiled by the one click site creation tools.

      Hi UMS,

Do you think it will be just as easy to clone from a sub-folder and move to the main public folder of the new host account?

Guess its worth a shot eh?

    Hi sbucciarel,

thanks for the link to the pdf .. i read it and it seems comprehensive but where it says copy all files except the ones you dont want to .. its not plug and play enough for me .. (novice).

So I think I might have to use that pdf as a back up, and read more into the cloning option.

I would prefer spending the $200 + bucks on hosting rather than transferring the sites, then hosting!

I have received advice elsewhere on this forum, but do any of you guys have a view on seo hosting packs? I have mostly been convinced that moving from a single IP to a shared IP may be just as bad for being deindexed ...

If the above information wasn't good enough for you, then I think at least one or two web hosts will do the transfer for you if you commit to hosting for a period of time with them.

I googled it, and hostgator was the first one that came up. I've never used them, but they're big, and transfer is free. Hope this helps.

      Hi,

I have found that bluehost and quite a few others dont help with the transfer process. Its almost like they dont want my business? Or want the non labor money, the easier clients. I can get that. Unfortunately hostgator is the host that I have all the domains with that I am trying to transfer from!

On the fortunate side I have one domain with not much content so I will see if the duplicator tool that i was referred to above works, at least with the first host that I buy ..

Here you go. This guy's a warrior and he'll transfer your sites:
        http://www.warriorforum.com/web-host...resellers.html

I just started using them last week. While I didn't have him transfer any sites, the response from support has been lightning fast.

Standard Disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing to do with the company mentioned above.

I have just 'discovered' and am still trying to confirm, that most hosting companies use shared IP, so they are the same as seohosting companies? I was in the middle of getting rego with Bluehat then read for another $30 a year I can get a dedicated IP. As these are not money sites, paying extra for a dedicated IP seems senseless.

BUT so does paying $7 a month for a regular plan which is a shared IP, when I can get 15 shared IPs on an seohosting company for ONLY double the total Monthly price.

I have downloaded the site duplicator tool, and was mid way through buying off bluehost when I have had to seek more info on why more people dont use seo hosting if they are technically the same as hostgator etc, and most dont give any info on how many other domains, and the size of their traffic, you will be sharing with ...

    Any advice?
