Social Networking + Affiliate Marketing

First off, I am new to the whole IM scene so, sorry if this question comes off as completely stupid.

The first site I am launching is a blog and review website. Should I also create a facebook and twitter page to go along with my website?

Im not sure if that is not the norm or its a stupid thing to do.

    Yes you should create a Facebook page if that's what you want to do. Its not required you do Facebook or Twitter. That adds a extra element of social interaction if you take the time to build a relationship with the people that you connect with. If you do create those profiles post 3 to 5 times a day engage in conversation with your target audience and get your audience to your subscribers list.

    It depends on what blog do you have. If you will promote only one product on this review site, than you do not need to do this.

    If you will have one blog, where will promote more products, then generate one FB fan page and put it on the sidebar of the blog.

    Yea thats what I was thinking.

    I wanted to know if the extra interaction/work was worth it in the longrun.

    I will be reviewing and blogging about many different books and products

    I think you need to do it.
    So that you will gain more traffic and the products will stay long.
    Just update it daily to make your visitors happy.

    Yes, you must. You have to create a respective online reputation and social signals for each, and it would work wonders for your sites, as you can put to good use the web traffic that you'll obtain from them.
