Is there a way to check where your site ranks for specific search terms? In other words, could you put in a URL and search term and be told exacly where you rank?

digitalpoint is a good free tool. There are things like webceo and other paid rank checking solutions you can get to monitor your positions automatically and will give you a report. Webposition gold is another one but I don't know if they've got their reporting back online after some recent Google changes.

Hi

I use https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

If you don't already use it then you have to do a few things to help Google crawl your page etc.

Once you have done this you can find lots out about your page, backlinks etc.

The one you are looking for though (I think) is statistics. Click on top search queries and it will tell you which searches your site was ranked in and in what rank it appeared.

I've used WebCEO for monitoring results and it's really good. Every once in a while your IP will get banned for the day, but besides that it's great, just expensive.

No tool exists that will tell you what keywords you're ranking for without you first entering the keywords yourself or a program that pulls keywords from your pages and checks them (but that might miss some keywords). What you're asking would require a Google query of every keyword combination in the dictionary and that's not just not practical.

What I like to do is look in my traffic logs (AWstats or Google Analytics) for keywords being used to find my site then I set up the keyword to be monitored by TrafficTravis SEO tool..
