While there are bound to be some fakers and theory sellers in the market, I think a majority of marketers make some money doing what they teach, but a bulk of their income comes from teaching others.

For instance if you figured out a way to make $1,000 in a month consistently, I think you could easily get 100 people per month to pay $20 to learn about how to do it, as long as it really worked on a consitent basis.

So even if you're making $1,000 per month doing what you teach, you would make $2,000 per month in additional income by teaching your methods to others.

In my experience teaching and selling info products is most often more profitable than than doing what you teach, but most marketers do both.

They have a business that earns money, and then they "productize" and sell information about how to earn money using their specific methods, giving them multiple streams of internet income.

It is easy to be cynical as I'm sure there are still quite a few 'fake it until you make it' merchants out there.

Speaking for myself, my main product is a course on how to run and profit from your own newsletter. Since I've been doing just that for over ten years and 1,273 issues, I think I am qualified by now!

Most people on here are selling courses/reports on internet marketing, and I suspect that is because it is what they are good at.

The main course I sell is about ghostwriting, and I've returned to ghostwriting whenever I run short of money as it is the method I know.

Sometimes there is no conspiracy. When you are starting out though, it is easier to believe there is one. It's either that or face the fact you just need to work harder than your competition.

Look at what people teach on here: build lists, market to those lists, make your own products. Then look at the WSO forum. Most of the traffic that is driven to those offers teaching people to do the things I mentioned...is driven by marketers that have built lists, developed their own products, set up JVs and walked the walk.

That's a very good question. Plenty of marketers have always mentioned that they consistently make $10,000 per month or that they make $2000 per day. The thing is it's probably accurate but I agree with Paul Silver I believe that most of the money that they make is contributed to the teachings that they sell.

With decades of experience as a local business owner, I have used, and continue to use, every technique I teach.

I know they work, because I have seen what they do for me, and I have watched what these strategies have done for others to whom I have taught them.

It's pretty sad to think that there are many people on this forum who are selling useless information disguised as gurus.

This is too relative a question.
What if someone is making $500 a month selling a wso that teaches list building, then $50 a month using their own techniques?

Technically, they'd be making money no?

Lets not forget how healthy a skeptical attitude really is. It built science from the ground up. I would have to personally guess that most people selling wsos, are not making money with the methods they're selling.

I like to look at things realistically. Money is money. The internet is the internet. The ability to make money on the internet, is an unbelievable opportunity for innovative "criminals". An opportunity like we've NEVER witnessed in the history of human creation. You should also look at what regulations exist and how easy it is to get around many of these regulations.

Its important I mention that I don't believe everyone is a scammer. I do believe however that exageration is a disease most people suffer from. This whole idea of chocalate covered broccli, has provided the moral backing many people need to exagerate their own bs... and to profit off of that bs.

Again, I'm not trying to be a pessimistist as much as a realist. The reality is, when it comes to business/money or even politics/government.... corruption is rampid. So why assume its any different on here? Why just assume that everyone is honest?

This is why, I rarely buy WSOs. I do try to help people out on here, but I realize that the most important skill is a strong ability to sell (whether in print or on the phone). I can teach you so many things... but teaching someone how to sell is NOT something that can be taught in any WSO. It took me years and years to learn how to sell effectively. I had to go to college for psychology, get my degree, gobble up tons of nlp books, tons of books on marketing/sales psychology and seduction, join the seduction community, apply innovative and fresh marketing techniques every single day to my own business.

If you don't have a strong ability to sell... how are you going to make money?

And if you don't have that ability, how are you going to learn it by reading a simple WSO? Or taking a simple course? Even if the course is concrete and informative... its the persistent application/testing that teaches people things. Not theory or information. A WSO I bought and profited off of, I'm honestly not even sure if the owner was profiting off it. I had an ability to sell, it was a new way to market for me, I applied my sales abilities to the wso and made good money.

But I'm sure most people who bought that WSO, didn't make a dime.
So seriously, teaching people almost anything... is no simple task.
Think of how hard it is to teach yourself things and really master them. Then think about how hard it must be to repeat that process for other people. People who have different belief systems, different life experiences, varying levels of insecurities, different cultural backgrounds, etc etc.
