How To Get Back My Recently Expired Domain

My domain expired yesterday but I've decided not to renew it using the same domain registrar.

I refuse to spend another penny with them...

Any way for me to grab it before it becomes publicly available? if not, how long does it take to become available?

Thanks...

Expired domains have always confused me, but I think there is a company out there somewhere that will actively monitor and buy immediately when it becomes available, maybe look around for that.

    Hope that helps

Personally, I would renew with them (GoDaddy, maybe? ) and just transfer the domain right away to your new host.

Yea I was afraid that's what I'd hear. It's not godaddy though I've never used them.

My problem is with 1and1. Their website makes it difficult to turn off auto-renew so every year I end up renewing domains I've lost interest in.

I've also bought domains through them that take a whole week to actually get registered.

I've been having a better experience with namecheap. They ask upfront if you want auto-renew on or off. And, so far, every domain I've bought through them becomes registered instantly...

If you really want to keep the names there is most likely no other option than renewing them with 1and1 and then transferring to another registrar.

As soon as the domain is expired you are at the mercy of the registrar as far as transferring is concerned.

It figures. From the title line and the words "I refuse to spend another penny with them", it was highly likely to be either Go Daddy or 1-and-1. :p

I would still renew it there, myself, and transfer it in to Namecheap after that. No point in taking a chance on losing it?
