How To Find The Goal Of My Site

I recently started my first blog, MMADose.com, which is a blog about mixed martial arts. I don't know exactly what is the best option for the site, and was curious if anybody here with some expertise could help me out.

My goal is definitely to build an e-mail list and recommend quality mma products/workouts to my list. But as far as my site and attracting visitors, what would the best option be? Workouts, Reviews, News? I feel like news is far too competitive to be worth it, but I could be wrong due to my lack of experience.

If anybody here has any sort of experience in this regard, I would love some feedback, tips.

Thanks.

IMO you shouldn't use facebook as your opt-int.

This could put people off and many people don't use the same E-mail for facebook as they do for every day use.

Blog about what you enjoy about MMA. What comes most naturally who you like and dislike, what fights have been really good.

Product reviews are always good too

Hopefully some more experienced warriors can give you some more feedback

Thanks for the quick reply jackcarr. Alright, I figured they'd like it since they wouldn't have to enter any of their info, but you make a point that it could be a different e-mail then they would prefer.

I'm going to keep blogging about what I enjoy, etc. I was more curious about what I could offer to get people to sign up to my list. A free workout, technique video? Something along those lines.

Also do I need to define my target market? Is it mma fans that love the sport and want to read the daily scoop, or fighters and trainees that want to learn the best workouts and products. I guess I'm just in between a rock and a hard place, because I would gladly write about either of those topics, I'm just hoping someone here could tell me which one would be better time spent.

Well instead of making just a blog, why don't you make it a blog inside of a website? (Just make a column linking/redirecting to your blog on your site)

I would post any training, exercises, fighting videos, ect on your main site and categorize them.

I would leave any major news or deals on your blog.

I would also make an ecom. store on your website, and just be an affiliate with online websites that sell MMA items.

To market the site, I would mainly develope offline connections with MMA centers around you and just handout cards. Maybe you can tell them if they forward their customers to you, you wi advertise the MMA center on your website.

Also just answer questions related to your site on forums an blogs.

    Good Luck!

Murphys, that's an awesome idea! I've heard mixed messages about having an e-commerce, but everything else sounds spot on. I'll have a main page which covers workouts, techniques, reviews. And then a blog page which is news, updates, and fun, opinionated posts.

Offline was my plan for marketing as well, was going to go into gyms and ask if they would allow me to put advertising up there in return for me giving their gym a review on my site or something.

      What do you think?

Sounds great, just make sure that you regionalize your website first. For example, I live on Long Island, so I would get as many MMA centers as possible on my site. Also, for your website make sure that the information is very easy to get to and maybe even put it into sections that anyone could get to.

It's going to take A LOT of work, but it may just lead to a big payoff.

P.S. Don't forget to make a list! You want these MMA crazy people to make your website into their Homepage! Write fun and informative newsletters weekly or a few times a week that revert back to your site!

          Definitely a great idea.

So what do you think of my homepage being my blog, which is just updates from all categories, then I have links in the main menu to techniques, videos, and workouts categories, which helps if someone is looking for something specific?
