How to make money from music I produced?

So I produce hip hop beats, usually I just try and sell them... But basically I did a bunch of songs with this rapper that turned out really good... The songs are gonna be released on a mixtape on datpiff.com... For an indie unsigned artist I think this mixtape will get a lot attention and promotion...

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I could personally use these songs, and maybe earn money from them? The songs will be free, so I can't sell them... And they're gonna be released in the rappers name, so I can't really release them in my own name... But I'm really proud of these songs.

I was thinking I could start a YouTube channel and post the songs and promote it and make money with the partner program... Or maybe make a website and just share the songs on there and monetize it thru adsense...

Anyone have any ideas... I wanna be able to use these songs in some way I just don't know how being the producer and not the artist who is releasing them...

Thanks

If the videos get a lot of hits, you can certainly make a bundle on Youtube. It sounds like an easy step to get started and get your feet wet. You could probably also start a website that acts as a video directory as well but that is a little more technical.

    What city are you in?

Honestly I think you had the right thoughts already... You can do both, sign up for a youtube account and link your personal website with it. It will be a great exposure for you, don't be afraid to share your videos.. If you're that good you can easily go viral

You could also create an app for the artist and highlight the songs in the app. Or just create the app for you and use it as a way to get more business for you.

Set up a soundclick page & upload tagged versions of your music and a few untagged for free (but if anyone uses it they have to credit you).

Drive traffic to it from forums, youtube, mixtape sites etc.

Sell beat leases for around $20+ a pop (non exclusive).

      Or

Set up a membership site for around $20 per month where they get free leases of all beats and drive traffic to that from soundclick. Keep adding a couple of beats every week and providing they are good, members will stick around.

You can create a mobile app for this and monetize some more. You'll just need a programmer's help to come up with a very good one.

Youtube is a great option. If you have videos, definitely upload them on youtube and also other music related sites.

thanks for the thoughts everyone... yeah signing up for PRO's would be a good idea i agree!

yup I have my own website where I sell/lease beats on...

But I'm not sure how to go about marketing this music that the rapper has added his vocals too, I can't really market it with my website because my website is aimed at selling beats and not finished songs...

So I think I will create a youtube and upload the songs and maybe a website and promote that maybe get tubeblaster or whatever it's called

I guess my question is, how do I market this youtube account/website? Since the music isn't actually by ME, it is released in the artist's name, not my name... who am I really gonna be promoting?

do i market it under my own name/producer name, like put out my own mixtape with this music?

Or just market it with my own name and make it clear it's just music I produced?

or should I call it something records/entertainment and market it like I'm a label?

I'm not sure how I can promote this rapper's music on my own youtube channel since I am the producer, the songs aren't by me, they are just produced by me. So yeah should I call this youtube channel my producer name or like make it seem like i'm a label releasing the music?

    Hi PhoneTools,

There's not much you can do with the music because the rights really belong to someone else. However, I reckon you might be missing a trick of your own!

You're able to produce quality music, so you have a talent that's marketable: as well as putting the tunes up on YouTube, why don't you create a series of tutorial videos showing HOW you produced them? All you need is one of those screen capture utilities like Camtasia (or ScreenFlow I think, if you're on a Mac). There are free alternatives out there as well if you do a bit of Googling.

I'm sure there's a lot of would-be producers out there who'd like to know some of the tricks that you've used to come up with such good beats. If you're willing to teach them a few things they probably don't know yet, then they could easily become your customers or clients.

    Just a thought.

    M
