Why is the time hidden in a lot of sales/webinar replay videos?

I've noticed a lot of sales videos don't show the time. Is it some kind of tactic to get someone to watch the whole thing? I really don't get the logic behind that because I immediately click away if I don't know how long I'll be sitting there watching.

It's pretty annoying when you don't know if the video will be 10 minutes or an hour long. I know a lot of you are doing this, and you're losing sales from that. Well you lose my sale anyway, I'm just saying!

Your right about the assumption that them removing the time is their way of trying to get you to watch the full video. What they do is let you know verbally in the video on how long its going to be or they put a countdown timer.

    So do many people.

I'm a notorious skepchick, but my suggestion is that most of the people using this "technique" haven't really split-tested it for themselves, but have just "heard that it works" (that's the explanation behind a whole lot of other stuff, too).

When I occasionally ask for and get feedback about marketing from subscribers on my various niche lists, "video" is a really common complaint, and especially "autoplay video" and "video without a timer". (I very rarely send any of my traffic to pages with any video at all, to be honest - and if I do, I always warn/explain first, which people really do like).

I don't usually decide what to do in accordance with my own tastes/preferences, in case "I'm not my market" but I'm significantly influenced by subscriber feedback. I care what customers think. And I know they don't like this.

THANK YOU! Glad to know I'm not the only one annoyed by this lol. Yeah it's a very shady thing to do in my opinion.

I must be different than most people then, it totally turns me off to watching the whole thing. When I don't see the time, it automatically triggers suspicion for me, like they've got something to hide or they're trying to trick me. It just seems shady.

    Its been discussed many times.

The answer is 'it must work because people are doing it'

I download the video and watch in VLC or Irfanview where I control playback.
