Serious Help Needed B4 Im forced to quit!!

Warriors...

Im laying it on the line...Ive been trying to earn a crust off my own back for about 5 years. My parents, fiance and give it 4 years, even my children all call me a dreamer and tell me to stick to driving a forklift on a buiding site.

As i said ive been trying to make my own income for around 5 years..maybe 1 year online.I didnt come online and expect to earn money sitting doing nothing, i taught myself how to build a website (html) with no prior knowledge or experience from w3 shools website, took around a month..then i got my head around designing covers and banners through photoshop...not very well, but you can judge for yourself in sig below.

I then tried reselling ebooks, audios etc etc,my latest site is selling information products regarding internet marketing...it hasnt even seen a visit.

I use the free ads, craiglist, digg and recently taught myself how to create videos and submit them...i used traffic geyser, but ran out of doh so used the free submitters and did the rest manually..i do ok on videos being up there...the first vid i submitted under keyword "free internet marketing strategies" which had over 50 million competing and i mangaged a page 1 and 2 on google on first attempt!!...didnt make a blind bit of difference though!!..lasted 24hours and vanished!!

I then took what i knew and began selling clickbank products, used cb trends to make sure it was selling first, then went through the motions of promoting it..free ads..digg..traffic sites..blogs..twitter...and then i created 4 videos and submitted them under 4 diiferent email addresses so in total i had over 100 vids in circulation...i was page 1 position 5 in google for my keywords with 300,000 competing. not a sale!!

Now it sounds like a pathetic "oh plz help me i cant make money" i can assure you it AINT!!.Im on the internet over 8 hours a day using my time effectively completing 1 task before moving on,i feel proud that i have learned what i have so far..especially being a forklift driver on a building site, but my hope is draining!!

Can anyone help me out...i know im destined for better things,i learn fast and i work hard.I do put the effort in i PROMISE..Can anyone offer any guidance??

This is a very common strategy. Everyone jumps into internet marketing to teach others internet marketing. Doesn't make sense. It is a crowded niche and the pros will always stand out far above you.

Naturally it will come, you will eventually teach about what you do. But doing it to start = failure.

Like Tina said start with a niche that you can dominate that is not so crowded. Build an income that you can then use to fund other projects. That way if you have an idea that does not work it did not take food off your table.

Eventually when you have mastered the art you will start to teach others and have some credibility in your offers.

I work with a lot of beginners. Honestly, I have heard that same exact story countless times.

One BIG problem is that you are working in the WRONG niche. IM products are NOT where beginners need to be. First, the competition is huge. Second, you can't just "flip bits" and expect to make money selling products telling others how to make money when you haven't yet....that's the wrong path.

Take what you have learned and apply it to very small niches.

It's better to have a small piece of a small pie than nothing from a giant pie.

I went through the same trouble until I listened to those who told me get out of the IM niche and start looking for opportunities to solve other people's problems in an area I was passionate about. For me that turned out to be small businesses struggling to establish an internet presence.

I don't know what your passions are but I can tell you from my own experience as long as your focus is on the money you need to earn, it is hard to find your road to success, online or off.

You need to ask yourself a few questions.

    1. Why do people need what you're offering?

    2. What makes it unique?

    3. Why should they get it from you?

Really think about the answer to each one.

    All the best,

You got some good advice. But let me add this...

...stop focusing on products and focus on problems and solutions. When most people have problems they come online and look for solutions. Clearly, your solution is not needed. As already stated, you need to give people what they are looking for.

    Now here's the key...

...take yourself and your thoughts out of the picture. It's about what they want and are ready to spend money on not what you would pay for. If you get stuck there you will not make a dime.

Just hang in there and all the pieces will come together for you.

Quick notes on the site in your sig: It's not that bad, but IMHO, you're using way too many fonts and text colors. There's at least 6, try for 2, or 3 at the most.

Also, I think the headline and bullet points could have more zing.

Have you made any money? At all from what you have been doing?

Have you thought about doing some freelancing? Doing graphics, html, banners for other people? It can be alright money and you can work at it as and when you have got time. Its also a big positive morale boost to see money coming into the account.

I have got to echo what others are saying in this thread...don't sell make money online stuff if you can't get it together yourself. I wouldn't have said that to you if the first thing you made money with was from selling these kinds of products but you haven't even managed that.

A lot of people would kill to know how to do graphics make banners and the like. You could maybe sell products on some of the basics of that. Perhaps you could offer coaching. And if that doesn't work out, or oesn't light your candle you might know enough to help local business owners setup and market their websites. Maybe offer web design and a little internet marketing consultation/services to the offlien business community.

If you would have put that much effort in to building a list. With a good squeez page and a free ebook,to get them to sigh up to your list. You could have around 10,000 sign ups by now and if you build a relationship with them. They will buy affileate products yes IM from you.If you play your cards right you could make 100 to 500 K$ per year.Make it simple just focus on building a LIST!!!!!

I'll add one more thing. Always consider these three important principles of Internet marketing success:

      1. What you offer must be valuable.

      2. A potential buyer must trust you.

      3. You have to know how you will get traffic even before beginning the project. (very very important!)

    Hi,

I recommend that you take a week off from EVERYTHING having to do with Internet Marketing, except:
    1. Any promises for which people have already paid you, and you can't ethically put them off a week
    2. Catch your breath and have discussions on the forum about making a brand new plan that is based on your own strengths and interests.

I noticed something about your post.
When it comes to online activity, you mentioned html, photoshop, clickbank, twitter, etc etc etc etc. Whew, I'm tired just reading about all that activity.
When it comes to describing who you are,
    who you serve,
what they are passionately concerned about,
and why you are uniquely equipped to help them solve their problems...

    crickets,
    zilch,
    nothing.

It's like a day at the post office where everyone discusses the latest sorting machine... and nobody goes to deliver any mail. What's the purpose of all the activity? Isn't it to provide valuable service to real people, from another real person?

Chill out and take a week to think this through.

And going forward, give yourself a limit on trying new things. Maybe two hours a day for six weeks, and if no income, you'll drop that approach and try the next one. But please, only in context of a plan built around you and the people whose lives you are well equipped to improve.

    Regards,
    Allen

well, you were getting traffic with the CB product (assumption), and picked good selling products (another assumption - but it sounds like you did your research).

That would make me think that either the traffic was not targeted, were not 'buyers' (you did choose 'free' as one of you kw's in part of your post), or the problem is once they hit your site.

I read this, and I think you are on the right track and that it probably is only going to take a few adjustments to get stuff going for you.

As long as your landing page is up to par, and you are getting targeted traffic, you should start seeing some sales.

I am hardly the cheerleader type, but in this case I gotta say it - 'don't give up'.

Brother, I remember watching the most recent Olympics. The torch was lit, and the athletes were carrying their country's flag on what was obviously the most important happiest day of their life. And you know what? You're kids call you a dreamer...guess what: you don't get to the Olympics or win a gold medal by being a realist. Neither do our Olympic champs. They're all dreamers. Never EVER give in to dream killers. Like Edison, you've not failed, you've just found more ways not to do it.

What can you do better than anyone else in your circle? Some can speak, others can write, still others have a passion for personal development. Find this FIRST. Then join and post on forums specific to your passion. Listen. Watch. Participate. Soon you will add value and then you will have a clear understanding of what people are having issues with and be in a position to HELP them.

Be a dreamer my friend. and NEVER SURRENDER.

Can you do me a favor, New Life? Just create a short list of "10 things to watch out for when hiring a handyman or contractor"? Or a list of "7 things to make sure you haven't found construction's Bernie Madoff"! Or how about this one: How to know if you're about to hire a scamster who will run off with your money and leave you with an incomplete job by making a few quick phone calls.

Write those reports, get them out there in the real estate and/or rehab market, and I bet you will quickly find yourself considered an expert. Believe it or not, there are really good deals to be had in real estate if you know where to look, and a lot of people who have never even held a hammer before are considering buying and rehabbing property because they want to get out of the rat race and they don't know what they are doing and are in for a big shock if they don't know those things.

Don't know the answer to some of those questions above? Find someone on the job site that you work who has the answers! And then interview them and record the interview. Audio is considered in many cases to be worth more than printed products these days, so your recording will be considered of value. Maybe you could do a telecall and record that, allowing others in on the call to ask the expert questions.

jas170-i couldnt generate any traffic at all with the product i had put together, i began to question my site and product at that time and so decided that maybe if i sold someone elses products, products where the sales copy was written by pro's, and the market wasn't as fierce, maybe i could do better.

Am i even on the right track??

As others have said, get another niche. I mean, I don't get people like you: why try to teach people how to make money online when you don't know how to make money online? It's like going in to fix a malfunctioning nuclear reactor when the closest thing to physics/engineering training you have is grade 4 math. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

choose a niche one that your knowledgeable about and stick to it, 1 website 1 niche don't jump around creating other websites. Stick to it until you build 100 visitors a day, which should give you a nice income.

I learned the hard way, after having success with one niche I went out and created 100 sites all in different niches thinking it was easy, now trying to work on them all was tough even with a team. In the mean time my original sites that I had success with suffered and no money was made on all the new sites due to me trying to be greedy.

WOW..you've got some good advice here so far. One thing I could add.....you seem to be all over the place with all the knowledge in the programs and that can be good. I would say......stop and focus on one thing. You'll never accomplish anything by being all over the place all the time.

The idea about writing reports about the handyman, etc I think was good. Writing those reports and giving them away to build your list and establish yourself as an expert or at least someone with more knowledge than most in that niche is good too. Its a place to start, focus and build from there.

You can do this...just take a breath, stop, think it though and focus on your starting point. Move forward from there. Hang in there.....

The first thing you need to do is calm down and get you family in check. Stop looking for their approval and looking for any scrap of support. People offline don't get it and never will. Next...

Online marketing is a career with a steep education curve. It takes ten years to become a doctor and many other professions take 10+ years before you make decent money in a senior position.

Learn about Malcom Gladwell's 10,000 hour rule in the book Outliers. It takes 5 years of full-time work to become a master at something in any field - this is a proven fact. You are no where near the point where you should give up.

STOP marketing to marketers. Competition is way too fierce. Take those methods you use to a non IM niche and you will make sales. Page 1 and position 5 should get you some visitors, but what kind of keyword is it. I don't know your keyword research method, but try for buying words with little competition. Try other methods of traffic generation besides free ads and social traffic i.e seo, ppc, article marketing.

That's partially true for other niches, but this one is unique in many ways, not least of which being that you're in direct competition with the most brilliant minds in the field.

So Im guessing your not making any money. I guess what you need to do is find something you love. Let me tell you this much...people can say what they want about picking the right product, although this does help....what you really need to do, is to get into "building your backlinks". Traffic + good sales pages= MONEY!

You need to get as much traffic as possible..and I think this is the problem. Building your backlinks is tedious, but some ways you can do is to go about blog commenting and forum posting (at least 100 post per day)

    Hi newlife
If you like being in this very competitive Im niche, you need to look at your competitors - and you have a lot :-)

If you insist on promoting your current product - you need eighter to read a lot more about how to create a webpage, or may I suggest you find a copywriter in this forum to eighter rewrite your salespage or give you feedback.
I can see that you are a fighter - and you are not afraid to struggle with technical challenges - Pad your self on the back for that :-)
I know that you have spend a lot of hard work doing all these tasks yourself. Well done :-)

Now I think its time to start study marketing strategies:
    things like :

What is needed on a salespage (testimonials, terms and agreements)
You as a person on the webpage,
tips and tactics to make your visitors TRUST in you.
    Pricing your product right
Decide who you try to sell to. If you are targeting newbies, you need to refrase your wording on the salespage. (They won't understand one word)
show your self as a person both in the salespage and in the video.

since you are such an action man, any mentor would love to help you.
So maybe its time to save money on products and spend them on a personal mentor. I am sure you can find a good one in here.

One last thing DON'T GIVE UP - you have what it takes, you just need some guidance to progress in your business.
    Best wishes

Warriors..Thank You so much for all your words of wisdom..

Lindgren..I was going to pm you, but thought it would be better to publicly thank you,and every warrior who took the time to write and pass on some much needed advice, tips and encouragement, and for the speedy way in which you all responded.

Yes im a newbie, and im sure some of you had to grit your teeth at having to politely remind me of principles and fundamentals that after 70+ posts, i already ought to know.My apologies for what may have seemed like ignorance.

Im going to have a serious re-think about where i go from here, for those who were unfortunate enough to see my shambles of a product and website, you'd see the result of someone jumping in at the deep end, not through stupidity, but enthusiasm.

Some of you echoed my worst fears that i always jump from one thing to another, im certainly going to work on that, master 1 area before moving on to the next.

I really dont want to give up though, when im stressed out my mind at work, driving around in my forklift truck, im always stopping and writing ideas that pop in and out of my head all day, i spend my breaks writing a list of exactly what im going to do when i get home, learn more this, do more that, being on the computer, online, trying to make a better life for me and my family, this doesnt seem like work!! i really enjoy this!!!

The icing on the cake of course, would be to make enough money so that i could quit my job and begin doing what i love, instead of working in a job i despise, yet can't give up cos i dont ever want to tell my kids they cant have what the other kids have got!! (opening up a whole can of worms there) Anyway surely were all entitled to at least a shot at it??

So my thanks once again, and if anyone reading this is looking for an apprentice, know that noone will work harder than I !!!

Now, its after midnight, and for the first time, in a looooooong time, im going to bed before 3am!!

      Many thanks..

More on doing an interview on construction and/or rehab pitfalls:

Charge a small amount for access to the interview but don't allow downloading. If they want to download and replay it later, they have to pay extra. Or do the interview without others on the call and then sell the finished product later. Make sure you set up a system to maintain a list of those buyers, and then go and check out PrivateLendingMadeEasy.com. His affiliate program pays out 20%, but if you do a telecall with him, he will provide the questions he wants to be asked and then pay you 50% of the money that comes in from the call. The payout is higher on the telecall marketing method because those are your customers and they are proven buyers, not just tire kickers.

The program is somewhat expensive, but then that's good because you won't need to sell so many copies in order to make a decent amount of money.

Honestly, it sounds more like your problem is traffic generation, not conversion. At least not right now. If your page hasn't seen a single visit, how do you know whether you can sell internet maeketing product or not?

I don't think (from your post) your traffic generation techniques are well planned out. For example, you know how many competing pages there are for your keywords, but do you know how many people are searching them through search engines? The keyword you targetted, "Free Internet Marketing Strategies", mostly people that are new and people that don't want to spend money on products will be using that. There might be a better way to drive these people to your site. Maybe they are looking for the same information through some other keywords. Believe it or not, many beginners may not even know this exact term "Internet Marketing" at the very early stages.

I think what you need to learn now is keyword research and traffic generation techniques. You have used your time well by learning all the things you have learned so far. They will all become handy. Now is not the time to get confused. Traffic generation and conversion are two most important skills to even survive. You should spend some time and energy for these before even thinking about quiting.

By the way, I only partially agree with the people that said that you have chosen the wrong niche. You actually don't know yet. How can you expect to make sales before sending enough targetted traffic to your offer? Send traffic and tweak your landing page as you need. You will see better results. IM niche might be more difficult than other niches, but it is not impossible.

    Just my .02 cents.

    Best of luck.

You're on the right track with your tenacity and won't quit attitude. That's great! Don't lose hope.

From reading everyone's posts the one thing I would do is take a step back and make a list of things you know a lot about. Do you have a hobby or a skill? Home improvement topics in general are always valuable, for example.

Then, I'd pick one and start from the beginning and do something incredibly simple, like Bum Marketing. Once you master that technique, expand on it. If you find a niche that seems to do well or a product or service that you have been promoting that seems to be bringing in some consistent cash, think about ways to expand it with a blog, larger website, list, some squidoo lenses, etc.

It seems to me as if you've been making your life a little complicated! I did that at first, too, and have only now started to focus AND my earnings have started to pick up.

For the sake of a very "light" testimonial of what can be done...

Just last week a client contacted me out of the blue because I ranked on Google for a term like "SEO consultant in ________ CA"

They turned into a fast and easy 2k on the upfront (for about 2 days of work)...and which will be turned into ongoing work/revenue shortly after.

Learn how to setup sites and provide consulting to offline businesses....and the money will flow easily.

my 2cents....it's really not that hard. Focus and take action.

      Hi fellow warriors

What can i say, its been an amazing few weeks.

After following some top class advice from the warrior forum members, ive actually found something im good at!!.

It didn't happen overnight, but i worked hard and evaluated where i was and what i was good at, from that i have found a way to enjoy working online, and earn a liitle cash as well.

I am now an article writer, ive started off writing a few for a friend who told me that my articles were actually very good.

This gave me the confidence to actually pursue this and improve upon my skills, which i did. I then began writing in a few other forums, where i recieved amazing reviews and cemented my belief that this is what im destined to do. I enjoy doing it, no... I LOVE DOING IT!!

So i guess the only thing left to say is thanks...to everyone who inspired, supported and gave me the courage to go after my dream of working from home.

I'll soon be offering my services here and so everyone will be offered the chance to see for themselves, what the warrior forum members are responsible for.

      Again, my deepest thanks

      Regards

John, I just found this month old thread now for the first time.

Ironically, what you're doing now is how I started...freelancing.

I have long since given it up (way too much work for my blood) for
greener pastures, but keep at it and you can turn it into a nice chunk
        of change.

        Congrats on your success.

I couldn't be happier for you.

I love this guy. Exactly what you need to succeed online. A stick-to-it-tiveness.
    Your attitude is brilliant.
Your family calls you a dreamer? So what do they call working hour after hour driving a forklift? Heaven?
My guess is you want outta that job bad. And from what you've said, you will.
In my humble opinion you are doing several things wrong.
You are employing a scattered approach to your efforts.
Perhaps you are going into the wrong niche. Though thats not necessarily true. It depends upon how good your knowledge really is. And whether you can punch through the info clutter.
And choosing low quality traffic methods. They will get you opt ins, but unlikely many sales.
If you have a very high quality product, I would advise trying joint ventures. Throwing up a website and doing what you was doing to get visitors is not surprising you didn't get any sales.
If you can afford it I would tell you to start selling via adwords, discover which keywords sell, THEN try all the free methods using those keywords.
And as you go, test your salespage. Get the conversions up, then go to potential joint venture partners and offer then a 75% or even 100%, produce a backend, and make your money there, and of course collect all the buyers email addresses as you go.
And above all FOCUS. Keep your eye on the prize.
i would really like to know how you get on with your internet endevors. Feel free to PM me and let me know how you progress.
Its refreshing to hear when someone will go as long as it takes.
    Good luck and God Speed!

Thanks for the positive feedback mate, but im actually well on my way, so much in fact, i aint driving no forklift anymore!!.

Ive learned a few other things as well, all from a guy i met online who freely shared valuable information without asking for anything in return!!.

Im still learning everyday, im not content with just one thing, but im intelligent enough to pace myself now, im not in as much of a hurry. Ok so im not earning $1000 a week, but ive only been going like 2 weeks solid, after a few stumbles, and im earning about $50 a day at the moment for 4 hours "work", if you can call it that.

      Life is good!!

    New Life,

I love this Thread. It's very inspiring. Maybe one day I will hunt you down to help me with your article writing services. Why, because I am hopeless in article writing.

I love Internet Marketing, I spend too much time on it everyday. But I do it as a hobby. If I don't make any money I am still happy.

Good luck and live life to the max. By the way you should rename your to "New New Life".

No one can force you to quit, so keep going the key is to not give up! I've had a heck of a time myself. I began August of 2008 with Wealthy Affiliate and that confused me, so I did the 30 Day Challenge twice! The 30DC is great for newbies I learned a lot there and it's FREE.

Then I joined the Niche Blogger and learned even more and finally began to make a little money not much. However, the money I have made is in the MMO niche, go figure. The key is to find a product you believe in then do article marketing to promote that product and drive traffic to the site/blog/landing page/Squiddoo or wherever.

You must write a lot or outsource if you cannot do it. You must be excellent at presell and believe in your product or write as though you are.

For example, if you check out Travis Sagos e-book on bum marketing and do as he says and focus on his methods and promote his relationship stuff using articles and other tools he provides you will start making money.

You need a mentor who can give instruction and not try to do it on your own. Well, you can, but it will take you twice as long.

My primary mentors have been Ed Dale, Travis Sago and Amy Bass. They are all excellent at what they do, so I do what they do. It may take me a bit longer because I'm tech challenged and know nothing about IM. However, I absolutely refuse to give up.

If you're a writer, why dont you write an ebook or pdf tutorial on how to operate a forklift. Take a good picture(camera shot) of the forklift's 'dashboard' and try to identify each one of them and explain their functions on the ebook; including how to maintain them and some other techniques for effective operation.

Then sell them in your site and ebay.

    Hey New Life:
You sound like a warrior. Don't give up. It sounds like you are on information overload already and going in every direction. I would suggest to you to follow a successful internet marketer who offers coaching. The money is worth it if you can get the guidance and direction to put you into the right business model that would work for you. That is what I am doing and it is working for me.
