How Many Hours Do You Work On Your Business?

Not sure whether or not this topic has been discussed here, never seen one. This has been discussed on certain "underground forums" and I am curious to know your thoughts here too.

So the question is: how many hours do you spend on your internet business or real productive work? Whether it is writing articles, creating videos, creating those PDF manuals, etc. This excludes wasting time on Facebook, Twitter, etc unless it's work related

Personally I spend 8 hours a day on my business... yes 8. Some people on certain forums spend 16 hours a day

    I spend about 10 hours a day on my business daily.

    Here's how I break it down:
    5 Hours of managing employees
    2.5 Hours of online link building myself
    2.5 Hours spent on cold calling potential clients.

    I can spend 1 hour per day 5 days a week or I can spend 2-3 hours per day 5 days a week.

    Usually when I want to write new articles, I will spend that 2-3 per day.

    It does not matter how many hours I spend or how many hours others spend. The question is how you are going to spend them?

    You need to know the night before what you strategy for the next day is and whether that will move you forward in your business or not.

    About 6 hours of actual 'heavy lifting'...

    I do read a lot and try to learn something every day... that takes up about 2-4 hours daily, but I guess it's not actual work.

    I work a job where I have to be at work for 7:45am and I get off at 4:30. So I Normally wake up at 5am and work on my campaigns and such until 6:45am and then I go to work and when I get off at 4:30pm I relax until about 6:00pm and work on my business from about 6 until 12am sometimes 1am. So in all I'm totalling 7 or 8 hours a day and this is with a day job. With Hard Work and Dedication anything is possible.

    8-10 hours per day, 6 days per week (I take one random day each week to just have fun, play video games, read some reports I stockpiled that week, go out etc.)

    I spend around 4 hours on my core business - niche websites and the rest goes to my blog and related FB page/twitter/YouTube channel.

    To be honest, I'm having a blast at the moment, since I started my own blog last month and I find all the new stuff like video recording/editing, drawing, writing blog posts and reports...it's a breath of fresh air to what I was doing for the past few years - niche websites.

    Niche websites are bringing me 100% of income ATM, but they aren't much of fun to work on, at least to me. But hey, you gotta grind in every business until you reach certain point, right?

    Currently about 10 hours a day every day but that's because I'm in the start up phase. Although I fear that unless I do some networking and accelerate my learning I'm going to get stuck with between 10-14 hour workloads daily. First order of business when I start rolling profits is a mentor lol.

      A great place to get a mentor for free is Free Small Business Advice | How-to Resources | Tools | Templates | SCORE. They have a lot of business people and entrepreneurs volunteering their time to help new and upcoming businesses. It's a great resource - even without the individual mentoring they offer.

    I'm quite often online for 12 hours per day, or even a little more, but I only spend about 40/45 minutes per hour really working on my business. So it adds up to about 8 hours per day, I suppose ... about the same as a full-time job (maybe a little more, rather than a little less).

    Sometimes it's difficult to put a fast and hard schedule to devoting a certain number of hours to your business itself. If you have clients, their projects will always come first. That said, I've found that allocating at least 15% of the total hours in the work week to your own business is critical to ensuring that you're practicing what you preach for your clients. Whether you hit 15% every week is less important than ensuring that the amount of time you do spend is "quality" and focused in the arena that will bring you the most potential return. Oh - one last tip - try to do it first thing in the morning while you're fresh and before your clients are calling. It's great coffee time and it will energize you for the day ahead.

    5-8 hours per day ... that's no water cooler time, no messing around, just hard work...

    People with normal 9-5 office jobs spend half their day walking around, talking with co-workers, going to the bathroom, slacking off...

    I am down in the trenches at least 5 hours per day working my butt off

    8-10+ hours at the beginning, but aside from setting up ad swaps/solos and tweaking my sales funnel, I work maybe less than 2-3 hours a day.

    What I hated about working a 9-5 job was only getting paid for the hours I was there and not my productivity. Goofing off at work made the time pass a lot slower.

    8-hours on average, but it really ranges...when I'm launching a new product that can easily go to 12-14, just after I take a couple of weeks where I only work 4-5 hours.

    I don't really look at much of it as work, it's what I enjoy doing

    When you say work, do you count in time to learn things, as a beginner I seem to spend 12/15 hours a day infront of the PC. Slightly sad I know but I enjoy it. Probably not healthy either... I cant say I have ever actually timed how much productive work is going on but I don't really get distracted by facebook, mostly because its always super boring. Learning/working I spend 8+ per day I would imagine

    EDIT - I wonder if timing how much time you actually spend being productive would help you get more done/stay more focused?

      jack: when i say work, i mean just that, WORK, therefore excludes learning. No, not sad at all, as i mentioned in my first post, some people spend 16 hours a day...

      Yes, if you are a "one man show" timing is very important, and for that I use a software called: Action Machine 3... great, great software. If you or anyone need help getting it, let me know

    Doesn't matter how much or how little you work, the only thing that matters is how much money you'll make. If working hard makes you feel good, great knock yourself out. Making money does not necessarily require a lot of time or effort.

    I spend approximately 8 to 10 hours a day working, but it's not a straight 8 to 10 hours like a regular job would be. I sneak an hour in here and there in between running the kids to various sports and back and forth from school and various other funtions.

    I have a full time job so it varies a bit - during the week I usually get in about 4 hours of work and 1 weekend day i will work about 8 hours. I always try to take one day on the weekend to spend with my kids.

    I have found some great mentors who have taught me how to be very efficient in what I do so it doesn't take me as long to get it done. For example I write all of the articles for one of my websites a month in advance. That usually takes me about 6 hours to write them all, then another 2 to post them so they go out on schedule. If I had to stop and write and post a new one each day it would take me at least an hour a day.

    If you outsource wisely you'll get more done in less time. Although I work many hours, I try to outsource as much as possible. So, most of my work is managing workers and coming up with ideas.

      Currently, I allow myself an hour to check out Facebook, check the the news online and email. Then about 5 hours of work. This includes making out my "to do" list for the next day. I find that if I have goals for each day, I get more done. I love to cross things off my list. For me, it helps me feel like I've accomplished more. I work online 5 days a week, but if family commitments allow, I'll work some extra hours on weekends.
