How to make money online - how to make it not sound like a scam?

INTERNET MARKETING

"How to make money online" (next with "weight loss" and "instant abs") is one of the terms on the internet that most people tie to some sort of scam. At least those with a working brain.

What kind of ad, or slogan would you use if you wanted to promote a blog/site that is build around making money online, in order to make it NOT look like a instant scam. Everything that comes to my mind makes it look even more like a scam. Eg. "Make money online - the full truth", or even worse "make money online - 100% legit" - hehe.

I guess it's not even possible to NOT make it look like a scam just with a simple line of text. The website itself would not contain any of the usual crap, so that's good, but I'm just thinking about how to make it sound as professional and anti-scamy as possible.

And another question. If you would run a sfw/money blog, and it would contain a lot of backlinks from webmaster sections from porn pages. Do you think it would effect the search results in a bad way? As I'm not sure if Google knows the difference between a sextape.com link to myblog.com or a sextape.com/webmaster/ link to myblog.com

I'm pretty confident every product released is called a scam and every popular guru and blog marketer is called a scammer by a few different people. It's just like being a celebrity, even if you stay clear of the press and live a perfect life, they'll make something up. You can't avoid negative comments, you just have to learn to deal with them.

As far as sounding legit.. just be legit and use whatever tag line you want. Or: "Guys! Guys! We're not a scam, we promise!"

I guess it's not even possible to NOT make it look like a scam just with a simple line of text. The website itself would not contain any of the usual crap, so that's good, but I'm just thinking about how to make it sound as professional and anti-scamy as possible.

If that were the case, the WSO section would be empty by now. Do you know how many people buy WSO after WSO after WSO hoping it'll make them rich? If people want a solution to a problem or more information, they will gladly spend their money.

...Yes, yes they do know what that is and I highly recommend getting a hold of the disavow tool as soon as possible.

I think it's possible to not being called a scammer, when you're 100% transparent and honest. I wasn't afraid of being called scammer at some point just because I was successful, I was just thinking about a way of how to make a tag/headline sound as legit as possible. But I guess I just need to get them on my page and once they're on it, they'll see with their own eyes that I'm not posting any crap.

And you're right about the WSO section. I just need to wrap my head around the fact that some people WILL always buy that kind of stuff, no matter how often earlier products didn't deliver what they expected.

Thanks for the "Disavow backlinks" link. I've never used it before. But might come in handy in this case. And what if I add a "no-follow" to the links from the not-safe-for-work websites towards my blog, would that have the same result as the disavow tool?

That might be true for a lot of surfers. And I'm not saying all weight loss programs are scams (well instant abs ARE a 100% scam, as there's no such thing as 7 day abs) but, there are a lot of black sheeps out there and that's why I was looking for a highly legit headline.

Hehe, yeah deep down I know this too. I mean somebody gotta be buying all that crap and why should I try to sound any different, esp. since I'm NOT going to sell them any crap. I'm probably over-thinking this one.
It's just that I'm thinking everybody is going to think like me and be like: "Nah, yet ANOTHER earn money online" scam? Even tho it might be totally honest and legit.

Besides that. I'm new around here (as you can see from my tiny post count) but I'm positively surprised by the quality of replies. I usually just frequent small/closed forums and thought this one is soo big, it's going to be full of clowns, but looks like they are just browsing and the regular folks are posting!

Targeting in on weight loss for a sec ...

In terms of an ad or slogan, I have found nothing to work better than social proof. I am in the muscle building niche but I have also had a transformation that provides 'I know what I am talking about' going from 230 --> 185

So for example, a slogan can include a before and after picture for weight loss. I wouldn't see that as a scam unless it looked like 2 completely different people (which does happen a lot)

It is very possible to make things 'not sound like a scam'

My opinion is shifting to think that the "unwashed public" doesn't care at all about what would look like a scam or unreasonable to you or I. People buy the Slap-Chop, Ab Roller, Gazelle, or Sham-wow by the *millions*.

After a long time of disbelief, I am beginning to come to terms with this after responses from similar postings -lol.

Not sure on your backlinks question but it would seem better to err on the side of non-adult. Plenty of other sources.

There is little substitute for a reputation built over time. Sometimes you start with little or no customer base, but you have to start with where you are now and make sure every person you encounter that contacts you through your website gets 5 star treatment, and then you will start to see the growth you desire.

Try to think about positive sides not negative.

So concentrate only on the good things.

  I see no need to even include "legit" or words like that in the title. The reasons being a lot of the time those are the ones that turn out to be a scam.
  
  Anyone that clicks through to your ad has at least an inkling of curiosity about making money online. So sell them on your content. Provide good quality content within your ad. Anyone has the slightest bit of an open mind will be able to see what you are offering if you are content is quality.
  
  Bottom line, you shouldn't have to state what you are promoting is a not a scam, let the words of your content say it for you....Make sense? Trying to convince someone that something is not a scam is revolving to much around a problem, get into the solution: the solution that will help your people who click through make money.
  
  It's like I always say "It's the people who standing around looking for the scam and/or loopholes gonna miss the boat".
  
  I have family members who there is just no convincing what I am doing is not a scam....LOL Even when they see those affiliate checks that come in the mailbox....LOL

There is no headline or copy that will do this. Only time, reputation, and actually doing what you say you are going to do will work. Even the people with the best reputations and results will be called scammers by people

Imagine there was such a copy, the moment it was 'found' all the other sites would start using the same copy, and any competitive advantage would soon be gone.

Just do the work, help solve the problem your audience is paying you to solve, and you'll rise.

Also wanted to add this... There is something to be said for colors and the emotional impact colors have on people. For example, if you make a site that has a black background and uses dark orange highlights, that isn't a trusted color combination for most people. Blue is much more trusted, alternatively, than dark orange. And of course, a darker green color is associated with money.

So you might be able to convey some of that trust message using the colors and design of your site, more than you could with the headline or subheadline.

The idea regarding the color is quite interesting. I will keep it in mind! But I wanted to go with a blue scheme anyway, yet it's def. important to pick the right colors!

Google does not like links from "bad neighborhoods". I'd disavow every one of them. They won't do your blog any good at all.
