Video Content - Language Question

Hey guys, i plan on creating some awesome content for my new site and I want to have video + text version/video transcript on every important post.

The problem is, i am not a native english speaker and on videos, i may sound awkward or just boring, trying to concentrate on speaking correctly.

That being said, should i speak in my native language and add english subtitles, that way being more entertaining and freer to express my ideas? Or should i improve my presence in front of the camera and also improve my accent?

Thanks

Well, you can write down what you want said and go on Fiverr and select among many of the EXCELLENT video speakers there. Some even have background slide shows. They can be your video spokesmen. Even your script can be outsourced, there are many writers on Fiverr that can write your script.

I assume you are asking because you are marketing to an English audience?

The problem with subtitles is that many people either don't like them or just won't read them. And if you are posting your video on YouTube and they don't expand it to full screen mode the subtitles can be hard to see.

Judging from your post you certainly have no problem WRITING in English, in fact if you hadn't mentioned it I would never have guessed that you were not a native English speaker.

In my opinion you should do the voice in English. Not exactly sure what type of video you are doing, but if you are incorporating slides from PowerPoint or Keynote then you could have the important text displayed there while you narrate. That way even if a viewer had difficulty understanding you they could read the text.

I live in a French city but my command of the French language is very limited. It's been my experience that people really appreciate it when you make the attempt to converse in their own language and will forgive many grammatical and pronunciation errors.

Best of luck with your video.

As Bill commented. Your written English is excellent. So, if your accent is not so heavy that it can't be understood easily, I would recommend speaking in English. Strange though it may sound, many people find non-english accents interesting and are likely to listen far more carefully to what you have to say.

I don't think putting subtitles would be good idea, it's like your saying to the people "I know you don't understand what I'm saying, so here are the subtitles". I've seen videos from people that don't have an English accent and I was able to understand, sometimes I had to listen more carefully. So fear not and do the video with your own accent!

You may be unnecessarily worried about your accent. Get some honest feedback from a native English speaker. They can tell you whether or not it your speech is easy to understand, or point out specific words that might be a problem.

I agree with the others in how well you write. Americans, and really most other English speakers, really don't like subtitles. Oh they are fine, NO PROBLEM! I have a set of videos from deutsche welle with english subtitles, for example. But they WILL hurt sales, etc....

BTW this is NOT true world wide. I was surprised, for example, to find that scandinavian countries import a lot of media and FROWN on dubbing. They have LOTS of TV shows that are SUBTITLED!

I don't know where you are from, but some european accents are NICE. Others may be just kind of neutral. It is a MYTH that people simply hate those that are different. Heck, many states had different accents or customs, and some even remark positively about it. So ask a couple native english speakers what they think. The WORT is they could say they hate it, and maybe tell you why. You MIGHT be happily surprised though.

I recommend you to do it in English.Take sometime to practice the professional speakers accent and then try it yourself.Initially you might sound horrible..But later you'll pickup the right accent.

Another idea would be to listen to English movies, and talk with the character. That way you will be familiar with it within a day or so.

Whatever your accent is,If it is in english, you will get more audience.
