Genuine Expert but New to Marketting - Question

Hi
What a great Forum.
Forgive me that I have a question immediately after joining.
My question for experienced ClickBank and other Affiliates.

Firstly, it is important to say on the positive side that I am a well known, widely published author and psychologist, with a long track record of respected publications in niche areas.
On the negative side - so what? It does not make me money and I do not reach that many people.
I want to change both those things by releasing accessible products - MP3's and Videos in the Self Help area. I am a superb trainer and come over very well on audio and video. Also, I believe in the quality and integrity of these products. I would be crazy to ruin my hard earned reputation by churning out low quality stuff.
BUT I have no experience with affiliate marketing and marvel at what some people achieve in sales.
I want to be able to look after my potential affiliates and let them use what DO HAVE to increase sales. It is so frustrating to be a genuine expert, have products, but feel totally handicapped when it comes to sales and marketing.
So, I joined Clickbank and want to know if this sounds logical.

I DON'T want to sell an e-book product through affiliates AND on Amazon at the same time, because of the price point difference; and it also negates the effort of Affiliates. But I DO want to use my Amazon page as part of the general map that shows to customers that they are buying a product made by an identifiable expert. So I thought about doing this:
The products consist of MP3's or Videos. But the sales page makes it clear that as A FREE BONUS they ALSO get bundled in a FREE COPY of a book, which would normally cost them X on Amazon. That way, they go to Amazon, see the great reviews, and are further encouraged ot buy the audio or video product through the Affiliate. I would also price the Amazon book HIGH, around $50 - which is the psych/med/academic price point. Because the point is not to get sales through Amazon, only to enhance the value of the audio/visual product.

Would that actually help Affiliates? Or am I not thinking clearly.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

So you mean you are showing people links to products like books that you wrote to establish your reputation with them as they are making buying decisions?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Good, then you already have a great grasp of an idea on why people purchase things and what (mentally) motivates people to purchase such things.

On the negative side - so what? It does not make me money and I do not reach that many people.
Sure it does. I mean, nothing makes anyone money without a plan of action or without a call to action. There are a lot of undiscovered people out there who haven't fully utilized their talents to make money off of the things they're doing.

I would be crazy to ruin my hard earned reputation by churning out low quality stuff.
Low quality stuff? You should see the WSO, those people seem to keep their reputation.

BUT I have no experience with affiliate marketing and marvel at what some people achieve in sales.
This is all word of mouth for the most part though. Anyone can claim they own a multi-million dollar business but the majority of these people are discovered sooner or later as frauds or liars. It's all a gimmick to get you to buy their crap (usually). There are some real players here but the majority of them don't post or even browse here much. The money isn't on the forums, it's off the forums.

It is so frustrating to be a genuine expert, have products, but feel totally handicapped when it comes to sales and marketing.

While I can see you selling products in a market that's desperate for help (like Anxiety/Depression/Mental Illness) customers, you'll have a lower refund rate than those people looking for a quick fix button in the internet marketing niche and looking for an easy button to life that prints checks essentially, you're on a good start.

You're NOT totally handicapped because as a psychologist, you KNOW why people act the way they do and why they do what they do. You can easily translate that to why people are purchasing products and what drives them to do so. It's usually to solve a problem or for more information.

I think you're over thinking it a bit as most people who are new to IM usually do. It's kind of like jumping into a cold pool, you're always going to be scared of that initial jump and some people slowly climb their way down into the water only to give up and get out before entering the pool. Just jump in, find out what works for you and what doesn't.

Some of the most successful internet marketers had the most embarrassing failures while they were coming up on the ladder.

You are a highly intelligent individual who just needs to learn how to become a expert marketer. Its similar to karate. You start at white belt, your goal is to get to black belt and it takes years and dedication to do that. Get some practice inside of affiliate marketing. Bob Proctor has some great self help products on Clickbank.
