I want to have a header graphic for my Wordpress site. I am used to psd and jpg formats and to the best of my knowledge standard Wordpress header graphics are jpg, jpeg, gif or png.

But my designer only does power point ppt designs and wants to charge me more for the standard formats.

Did I sleep through a new paradigm shift in graphic designs? When did this become defacto for header graphics?

    Sounds like your "designer" is not familiar with photoshop.

    Ask your designer if they are familiar with GIMP.

        Also, if you're working in Powerpoint you can easily export any slide as a png or jpg. So either your designer is feeding you a line of BS, or he is grossly incompetent.

          I used to do it all myself. I'm a newbie at outsourcing graphic design. Thanks for the info. Now I'm more fully aware!

    Get a real designer. No one designs in Powerpoint. Powerpoint is for presentations, and even then the designs are often created outside of PPT and then placed in PPT.

    There are tons of people in Warriors for Hire who will do nice headers cheaply.

    Agree with all the rest here - if this "designer" doesn't even realize that PowerPoint can export to PNG and JPG then he/she really doesn't deserve your business.

    As for it being the defacto standard its been a standard to use JPG files for well over a decade now, PNG is a little newer but not much. Otherwise GIF files were used, but they don't have the number of colors necessary for rendering photographs properly.
