Does anyone know anything about gimp?

I'm new at photography and definitely new at editing, I want to put my own quality images on my website in the near future. I somehow did something and after my pics are uploaded and gimp opens up they are all in black and white and I can't figure out how to get them back to their original color so I can begin editing. Please help me..Cory

I can't tell you where to look in the program exactly, but I'm sure it is in your settings somewhere as how photos open.

I'd suggest you head over to youtube - you'll find a TON of free tutorials.

I'm a mac girl, but recently had someone install Gimp on their computer so they could edit some stuff and I was completely amazed. It really is comparable to Photoshop in a lot of ways.

There are plenty of free videos on Youtube to help you.

It's very hard to teach someone how to use Gimp in posts on a forum.

Much better if you watch videos that teach you.

It seems Gimp is set to a default image viewer. try to right click on the image icon and select other program to open them.
I used gimp for more than 5 years and I had no similar issue. Gimp is the best alternative to photoshop..

I would use Paint.net (Windows) or Pixelmator (Mac App store) instead of Gimp if you're looking for a free/cheap alternative to Photoshop that is easy to learn.

In the window that displays the image look for the Image menu. Open it and look for Mode.

Check to see that the mode is "RGB", if it accidentally got set to "Grayscale" the all your images will appear in black & white. That might be the issue.

I'm uploading them from the camera in raw mode, you have to go through this whole raw process first, they shouldn't be black and white. Please help, you guys are great I've always gotten the answers I needed. When I have more expertise at all this stuff I will start trying to help others. Thanks again, Cory
