Just curious, anyone have any experience with Bowker's customer support for getting them to make changes to your account?

I purchased 10 ISBNs yesterday, but to add an "imprint" you have to email them and wait for them to update your account manually. So now I've been waiting a day with my book all ready to publish but no response from them.

I needed them to change my Publishing company name recently... I had a reply to my email before I got up the next day. There were several emails back and forth over the course of 3-4 hours and the problem was resolved...

Your mileage may vary, but I had a very positive experience.

    Thank you for the replys.

fyi... For you guys or anyone who might find this post in the future: I ended up getting this resolved quickly this morning because I found Bowker's phone support page (listed below), called their "ISBN Agency" number/extension and explained to the customer service guy that I needed this taken care of as quickly as possible. He was very helpful, said that for urgent requests he is able to give out the direct email of the head of that department, he gave me her address, I emailed her, and got a reply from her in less than half an hour saying that my request had been taken care of.

    Thanks OP, great information.

For my last book I just got an auto-assigned CreateSpace ISBN, but I think to take my publishing business further I'll need to start buying my own ISBN's, if for no other reason than to list my own publishing company on the sales page.

Funny that the 1,000 ISBN's are so much cheaper (per unit) compared to the smaller packages! We should do a group buy IMO.

I briefly thought about doing that, but the problem is that the books will be under the publisher name of the purchaser. Yes, you can do an imprint, but....

It also means that everyone has access to the dashboard with everyone's books.

I decided I didn't consider it an acceptable risk.

I use the site that Amazon owns to grab all of my ISBNs. Sure they're slightly more expensive but I've had no problems.
