What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
I got started on this IM thing almost a year ago and have been reading through the posts while creating my own sites.

I haven't been as consistent as I would've liked to be, but I have managed to get 2 niche sites up and running. The first is in the dating niche and the second is in the health niche.

The dating niche site has been running since May/June-ish, pretty much entirely on affiliate offers and so far, it's made about $1200.00.
The health niche site has been running since mid-August and so far it's brought in about $400 - also from affiliate offers.
I'm overall kinda pleased, especially since I have no idea what I'm doing...but what I just CAN'T understand is...what am I doing wrong?

I feel like I should get more traffic (especially for the dating niche site) since I have over 200 pages/posts of entirely unique, high-quality content. But I'm really only ranking well for about 5 keyword phrases and the rest of my keywords are completely lost in the Google ether.

I'm not familiar with the backlinking thing (despite having read tons and tons about it) and I gave it a go a few times only to have one of my keywords (which was doing fairly well and climbing) completely obliterated.

As of now, I have no idea what my strategy should be: just leave it alone? build backlinks? write more posts?

Please help.

    The point is, you're making money. You know it's possible and as you say, you might not know exactly what you're doing. I think if you invest a little more into time, effort, and education, you'll be able to scale your earnings up hugely.

    maybe you're focusing on too much? Concentrate on one of your niches and build it up further and then the other.

    Thanks for the answers. I think you're right - I just need to keep on learning...I've learned so much over the past few months. It's just frustrating seeing that 85% of my pages and posts barely get any views.

    I understand I should probably concentrate on building up the sites more, but I don't understand what I'm supposed to be focusing on.

    The dating niche site has had the same revenues as when it was at just 50 pages/posts. I sort of feel like I wrote an extra 150 articles for nothing, since they're not even getting ranked.

    When you say I should be focusing more on the site...what do you mean exactly? Write more content? Build backlinks? I'm really not sure.

    It's probably not your knowledge or effort.....the market is saturated. Be careful what you "keep on doing"

    I know a few "dummies" making good money because their market is not saturated.

      Just don't quit and keep going. It takes time and you've only been at it for a year. You are making some money and you will only make more. Good luck.

    Hi,

    I suggest you take a look at what others are doing in terms of their SEO and marketing efforts. You can weight if this is something you can do also. Experimenting with different ways to build traffic is important if you want to grow your earnings.
